Weekending

Weekends in December are full of holiday cheer and I think that makes them zoom on by.

Ours started with our town tree lighting Thursday night. Dale and I were in charge of the tree on the gazebo for the second year in a row and we doubled the number or lights this time, going from 1,000 in 2018 to 2,000 for 2019. It’s definitely brighter and more festive. We managed to wrangle the family in attendance into a group shot, props to Jo-Ann for getting everyone looking good!

Friday was Jackie time and then Friday Night Snacks at home. The house is full of twinkle lights and I love our ritual of cocktails and special snacks to wind down the work week.

Saturday was our town’s Christmas on the Common event and Christmas parade. I marched in the parade as a selectman, Dale marched with the Kiwanians, and it was cold but fun. I love the energy of the crowds that line our streets, it’s a really special time. And Jackie sat with Santa after the parade!

In the evening we went to Dale’s work party. It was a wonderful affair, as always, with plenty of food and drink and merrymaking.

On Sunday we rested! Okay, not really. Dale put up the outside lights, I made Chex party mix and lots of lists, and we took our Christmas card photo. We managed to get one we liked but the outtakes are truly funny, let me tell you. And we laughed a lot which helped carry us through that awful Pats game.

And that’s my weekend update. Is it Friday yet?

  1. Excellent weekend and your town is so lucky to have you! And we had the bacon at the Charred Oak and it was delicious. Thank-you for the recommendation!

  2. It’s never fun when the weekend goes by too quickly, but at least when they’re full of holiday cheer, it’s somehow not as bad.

  3. Wow, you will have to show us a picture of your gazebo. I bet that’s gorgeous. I’m glad you had a weekend full of cheer, even if you had to endure that ball game. Maybe Friday will be here sooner than we think!

  4. Lights are the best thing about the season! 2,000 lights is quite a display and the gazebo must be amazing. Your weekend looks lovely. I especially like Friday night snacks!
