Vacation Reading Recap

I finished four books while on vacation last week. I haven’t written reviews just yet (the WiFi was spotty and frustrating and I tried to stay offline except for a bit of time each morning) but since Tuesdays are for books, and since this is technically the last Tuesday of summer reading . . . here they are . . .

The Black Bird Oracle is the latest from Deborah Harkness. It’s better than the last one in the All Souls series but I wouldn’t recommend it unless you’ve already read the others.

Sipsworth is wonderful and charming, a truly delightful and heartwarming tale.

My Dark Vanessa is from 2020 and one I’ve seen recommended on TikTok. It’s a difficult subject but it’s handled well, it’s disturbing and gut wrenching and also pretty darn good.

Know My Name is a memoir by Chanel Miller, the young woman who was sexually assaulted by Brock Turner on the campus of Stanford back in 2015. It’s powerful and important and truly eye opening.

And that’s my vacation reading recap. I’ll highlight some of my favorites from my summer reading next week.

  1. I’m looking forward to Sipsworth…my time in the queue for this one has finally come!! I should be able to pick up the book today.

  2. Oh I forgot I have Sipsworth! I’ll have to dig that out.

I was soooo looking forward to Black Bird Oracle and soooooo disappointed. You’re right, it’s better than Time’s Convert but was lacking the depth of characters of the trilogy (imho). And it was clearly a set up for a sequel (or two) which I was not expecting. I loved the trilogy so much and was hoping for something at least close to it.
