A Week of Gratitude: Happy Thanksgiving

I wrote in my Morning Pages today about Thanksgiving memories. The ones from my childhood when the relatives from Maine would come and stay with us. The one when I was 18 and we went out to dinner on the first Thanksgiving after my brother died. The first one I shared with Dale, back in 1996. And the first dinner I cooked myself in 1997. Some of the memories aren’t so great, honestly. But some of them are really wonderful.

And isn’t that life anyway?

Today, I want to say thank you for being here and reading this blog. I had an email today with statistics showing that 6K people visited in the last 30 days. That’s kind of amazing and I’m grateful for all of you.

I hope your day is nothing but grand.

P.S. That image up there? NOT my turkey, I generated it with AI. How about that! I’ll be back on Monday.

  1. And a Happy Thanksgiving to you, Carole. Thanks for sharing your life with me over the years. It’s been so gracious of you.

  2. You are so spot on. It made me think about the Thanksgivings of my past, more good than bad, and all have brought me to now. I start every morning with coffee and blog reading and I am very thankful that you are still here. Have a lovely long weekend.

  3. Happy Thanksgiving, Carole! I am one of the 6K lurkers. Over nearly 20 years of reading your blog I receive an example of what creativity, integrity and thoughtfulness look like. If I need to see an example of genuine love in action, I go to your blog. If I have a need for some visual beauty or inspiration, I visit you virtually. If I need to see what true stewardship of the vulnerable looks like, I go to your blog. If this isn’t enough, I am going to say something that hasn’t been said. It’s a little risky but I will take that risk knowing that you can “edit” my post. For the past nine months a “certain city” in Massachusetts has been highlighted for its systemic corruption – not in just one case but in multiple cases. When I read your post about a police officer making the street safer after Dale’s accident with a bit of humor it was such a stark contrast to the police behavior in that “certain city.” It is very difficult for me to not compare and contrast your achievements as a Selectman with another Selectman in that other city. You are a bright light. I am relieved that there are so many others who recognize light and try to add it to their daily existence. Thank you for all that you do.

  4. I was with my brother and sister-in-law for Thanksgiving and we had a lovely time going over some memories of Thanksgivings past. This gets more precious each year as my brother has several serious health conditions. I savor time I spend with him now, as he is the last living person with whom I have the longest shared history. So we did all our stupid little inside jokes and memories while the others around the table indulged us!
