Weekend Glimmers, Dec 6th-8th, 2024

It’s been a while since I shared my weekend glimmers, let’s fix that today.

It was a very Christmas-y weekend.

I participated in our town’s annual Christmas parade with my colleagues on the Select Board and then watched the parade with Jess and some of her friends. Jackie was on a float this year for the first time with his Cub Scout pack and he was adorable, of course. Dale did parade commentary and had a ball talking about all the different parade participants.

We had friends over for dinner on Saturday night. I served a simple meal of baked macaroni & cheese with ham and green beans. Friends brought apps and desserts to round things out and it was comforting and lovely. If you read Kym’s post yesterday you know that Dale and I wrote a toast for her to share and we used it Saturday night with our friends and it was received with smiles and tears so we know it’s a good one.

Dale took care of a bunch of outside Christmas tasks on Sunday, hanging wreaths on our garage, the front of our house, the front door, the kitchen door, and the mudroom door. He also brought down the Christmas tree and, while it is not yet decorated, it is back in our living room for the first time since 2019 and Dale has now declared that his favorite part of the renovation project.

I also filled my cup by reading, spending time in my studio, playing a bit of Dreamlight Valley, and making homemade soup.

I hope your weekend was a good one, too.

  1. Sounds like such a nice weekend Carole! We are still in waiting mode for the baby to arrive!! I lazed around and did a little knitting and stitching, but not much. Fletch put up lights on our patio and we watched a number of episodes of The Diplomat. That was a great toast from you and Dale the other day!

  2. That was a festive weekend and your tree looks lovely there. It sounds like the Julius family parade! I put up a few decorations but feel the need for more lights. It’s supposed to be cloudy and rainy for the next three days (hooray!) and I love having lights on to cheer things up.

  3. It was the perfect weekend here too! I made a big pan of sloppy joe’s that fed us once with enough to tuck away in the freezer for another meal! I loved your toast… it was just so lovely! XO

  4. Sounds like a perfect pre-holiday weekend, Carole. I am into homemade soup a lot lately. Maybe you should share some recipes of your favorites if you like. I think you are going to enjoy your living room so much, with many more, “I’m so glad we did this” remarks yet to come.

  5. What a wonderfully festive weekend, Carole! We got a lot of snow last week (over several days) and it totally derailed my outside-holiday-decor plans (too much snow on my porch. . . ). Now, I’m hoping to catch things back up out there! The snow has melted away – but now it’s raining. Oh, well. The wreaths WILL be hung today . . . despite the rain. And my heartfelt thanks to you and Dale for writing the toast for me. I’m so glad you guys will be able to use it through the holiday season. It’s perfection! XO

  6. What a lovely weekend! Sounds like a picture perfect New England postcard!

I saw your toast over on Kym’s site and I will copy and paste my comment here because it is relevant–

    >>I found you through Carole’s Blog (which I found through Norma’s Blog). I’m so grateful for you all. Here in the south we don’t have as many knitting friends and I have cherished not only the knitting on your blogs, but the wonderful way you share life with us!

    Happy Holidays to us all!<<

  7. It sounds like it was the perfect weekend to get into the holiday spirit! When you talk about what happens in your town for holidays, I’m really convinced that you live in a real-world version of Stars Hollow.

  8. That sounds like a perfect Christmas-is-coming weekend! We’ve had the tree up for a couple of weeks now. It has only lights, no ornaments yet — and it just might stay that way! Or maybe we’ll hang some candy canes. The light is what we’re enjoying most!
