Well. Thank you all so much for your questions yesterday! You have certainly given me…
Three On Thursday

Feeling random today so here you go . . .
- I am reading and listening to Anne Lamott’s Bird by Bird and it is wonderful, particularly the audiobook. Her sense of humor and delivery is terrific and it’s an essential book for anyone who considers themselves to be a writer. I feel seen in a whole myriad of ways and that’s pretty great.
- Some of you have asked for a review of the Oscar movies I have seen and I will give you a quick rundown: Anora was okay (I’m probably too old to really get it), The Brutalist was very good (but SO long), A Complete Unknown was excellent, Conclave was excellent, Emilia Perez was very good, Nickel Boys was not great (the book is always better), The Substance was good albeit gross, Wicked is amazing.
- I am so glad to see this week coming to a close. I don’t generally say that because I think every day has value and wonder and I never want to wish my time away. However, I’d been dreading having meetings every night this week for a while and I’m relieved to not have to anticipate that any longer. I do still have one more meeting to get through tonight and it’s Kiwanis, which is mostly social, although I do have to attend the Board of Director’s meeting as part of the Nominating Committee so there is a bit of work-ish aspect to it.
And those are my random thoughts this Thursday. Be well.
Bird by Bird sounds good! (You and Bonny have put Anne Lamott on my radar this month!) Thanks for your quick reviews on some of the oscars! I am so glad your Week of Meetings is almost over! XO
Thanks for the movie reviews. I’d like to see Conclave and also A Complete Unknown. I read an Anne Lamott book earlier (maybe late last year?) and was not impressed. I may need to give her another try.
You have my complete empathy about all those meetings! You are being required to do extra mental work during a time when you brain is already assaulted by outside events. Sometimes a girl just needs some time to herself to rest and recharge, and I hope you get loads of that this coming weekend. Thanks for the movie reviews!
Anne Lamott has been writing a series of newsletters for the Washington post on aging. While I like her books, I think they tend to get repetitive. The newsletter pieces seem to be just the right length for her wisdom and writing to shine without repetition. Meetings every night (really meetings any night) make for a long week. I hope you enjoy a well-earned weekend!
Meetings are always so draining, so I can understand why you’re happy to see an end to them for the week (I had to sit through a three-and-a-half-hour meeting yesterday and it was utterly exhausting). I read Bird by Bird a number of years ago and remember liking it, and I imagine it would be great hearing it in Anne Lamott’s voice. I hope you have fun snacks planned for the Oscars!
