Weekend Glimmers, March 7th-9th

Ooof. The Monday morning after we spring forward is not a fun one, amIright? I love the extra light at the end of the day but the darkness when I get up in the morning not so much. And here we are anyway and here’s a short recap of my weekend.

I took 2 photos. Which is 2 more than I’ve been taking so I guess that’s something to acknowledge.

Every Friday morning I make myself 2 poached eggs. Sometimes I have them on toast, sometimes on an English muffin, it just depends on what’s in the bread drawer. I started doing this years ago because I wanted to get better at making poached eggs and now it’s a routine that I really look forward to each week.

I spent Saturday at home, reading The Secret History, watching way too many TikTok videos, and catching up on Grey’s Anatomy. Dale had a band job in the evening so I put myself to bed nice and early and I wasn’t sad about that.

On Sunday we had a memorial gathering for my step kid’s grandfather (her mom’s father) who passed away back at the end of January. It was hosted at the local social club where he was a member for many years and did a lot of work for the club as a retired accountant. It was great to hear stories about him and have time with family and friends as well. I had told Jessica I would take care of the flowers on the table and I made simple bouquets of alstroemeria in mason jars. It’s sort of astonishing how much the simple addition of fresh flowers can have on the look of a room.

And really, that’s about it. It was a quiet weekend, really, and that’s always welcome around here.

  1. The return to a dark early walk was a bit depressing, I missed the birdsong as Frankie and I strolled along. I hope your Monday is a good one! XO (and those flowers are just lovely!)

  2. Now I want someone to make me a poached egg! I’m not very good at making them, but I rarely eat eggs. A relatively quiet weekend with lots of flowers is a lovely thing.

  3. What beautiful flowers!! My parents used to eat poached eggs a lot…I usually just scramble or fry mine, but perhaps I should try poached for a change. Thanks for the inspiration!

  4. I have no confidence in making poached eggs! I tried a few times, but the results were less than stellar. I admire your persistence. Looks like a lovely weekend, Carole. Yes, flowers are a game changer in so many ways.

  5. I’ve been rocking soft boiled eggs recently but maybe it’s time to up my game and get better at poached. Do you swirl the water? I out some serious time in on TSH as well. Horrible people. 🙂

  6. Hoping that I see the sun again in my rear-view on the way to work VERY SOON!! As I recall, it doesn’t take TOO long to get back to where we were.

  7. I think the dark mornings are honestly what makes this shift so hard. I woke up shortly after 7 yesterday morning, and it felt like the middle of the night! Those flower, though — that is a very welcome sight.

  8. I stink at making poached eggs. My father used to make good ones back when he was able to make them. I even bought the little silicone rings to put into the pan to make them round, I still couldn’t make them good. Then I bought a plastic microwavable poacher. I still use that but they don’t come out that good and have exploded at least once. I do like them though so I keep trying. May have to go back to the old way and try again.
