Wednesdays Are for Crochet?

At least for right now!

I ripped out and re-did the grey granny square and it’s now a face cloth. I can see the improvement in my gauge and it’s definitely less wonky than my first granny square. I used what I had left of this ball of Rowan Handknit Cotton and it’s about 8″ square.

I was ready to try something new and I found this daisy square, also made with Rowan Handknit Cotton. I learned the puff stitch and the triple crochet stitch and I plan on making more of these, some with different colored petals. I hope to make enough to join them together and turn them into something, maybe a small bag?

At this point the things I am enjoying about crochet are:

challenging myself to learn something new
creating fast finished projects
playing around with color

And the things I am not enjoying about crochet are:

the wonkiness of the first go round of the magic circle
the disruption of lots of color changes
being finished before I can really sink my teeth into a project

Those lists make me realize that both crochet and knitting should have a permanent place in my crafting life.

  1. I am wildly impressed with your second “square” Carole! I really like how that flower looks! So, so cute! And go you for learning this new skill!

  2. Wow! The second square shows impressive progress. I think it looks great. Just as with any skill, there are tricks to making the magic circle less wonky and making color changes. Lots of youtube videos demonstrate these. I think you are doing a fabulous job; you are already a crocheter!

  3. Go you!! I can see a big difference from what you showed the other week. Both of these look very nice! I still haven’t gotten back to mine, but I will (some day…). Love the colors of the second one and I am not familiar with that pattern or the puff stitch – will need to google and go down a rabbit hole…LOL

  4. Your squares are impressive, and you’re learning that crochet lingo! For me, the first time you did the grey square shows up at the bottom of this post and the difference is remarkable. Happy Hooking!

  5. Oh, your crocheting is really, really coming along nicely! I just love the daisy-granny. So charming. Enjoy!
