Weekend Glimmers, May 16th – 18th, 2025

It was the best sort of weekend because it included time with Doreen and our annual plant shopping trip. We visited 4 local nurseries over the course of 2 days and we did our level best to help the economy. If you’re a gardener at this time of year I know you understand.

I didn’t take a photo of the plants we bought at our first stop but here is what we got from our second:

And this photo shows our haul from the third and fourth stop:

There’s lots of coleus, plenty of geraniums for my window boxes and deck boxes, ferns for the pergola, a scattering of perennials, and annuals of many types for containers on the deck.

We also enjoyed Friday Night Snacks on the deck with cocktails. One night I made smashburgers (and Jo-Ann joined us, too) and one night we had sushi. We laughed and shopped and debated over purchases and it was a blast.

I also set up a plan with a local young woman to help me with my foundation and garden beds. She will be coming for 2-3 hours per week and doing weeding, deadheading, and basic maintenance. Yesterday she braided all of my daffodil leaves and they look so neat and tidy and this one is particularly interesting so I snapped a photo to share with you.

I’m really excited to have this help because keeping up with the weeding while working full time and having other responsibilities can sometimes be overwhelming. It’s good to ask for help when you need it.

I hope you had a great weekend, too.

P.S. I’m trying a new size for the photos, what do you think? Too big? Just right? Goldilocks needs to know.

  1. Photos are just right, Goldilocks! I think your garden is going to be gorgeous. Those plants are beautiful. Braiding daffodil leaves? Never heard of that, but it is intriguing.

  2. I think the new photo size is fantastic! And I am loving those braided daffodil leaves! I am going to do something similar with mine to keep them out of the way! Thank you for sharing that fantastic tip!

  3. The photos are Goldilocks size! Always fun to see your vehicle filled with lovely plants. There is nothing like the anticipation of a gardner.

  4. I like big pictures and I can not lie! I think the larger size is great as I’m always trying to embiggen photos. I’m so envious of your garden centers! We have two pitiful ones in addition to Lowes, and Home Depot; I visited all of them last weekend and didn’t find anything. Today I’m going to one an hour away and I plan on spending $$. Those braided daffodil leaves look wonderful!

  5. Love the picture size and the braided daffodil leaves are gorgeous. I haven’t done anything with mine – everything got so soggy with all the rain. I did cut off ALL the dead iris stalks (so many), so at least that bed looks a little better. But weeds? Tons of them. Good for you getting the help with that chore. We bought plants at a local greenhouse on Saturday. It was fun but very steamy in the greenhouses!

  6. I love those braided daffodil leaves! I don’t have many of those, but might try that with the iris leaves in a few weeks.

I’m a big fan of big pics! Yay!!
