The Summer of Sway

Hello June and Hello to what I am calling my Summer of Sway.
I have long wanted to choose a theme for my summer and this year I’ve actually done it. And I’ve chosen this word because I want to feel joyfully unbothered as I twirl and ease through the long days of summer. It creates a feeling of being soft and grounded, but still playful—like music you move to without realizing, like tall grass in a breeze, like saying yes without needing a reason. It encompasses ease, joy, movement and balance, all things I try and feel on a regular basis. It’s a word that will let me be in motion and in peace.
I am trying to find places in my life where I can loosen my grip, soften my pace, and let joy lead the way.
I am going to try to loosen my grip on money worries and retirement options and set all of that aside for a while. I am also going to loosen my grip by saying yes to spontaneous moments and being open to go with the flow, something that can be pretty challenging for me.
I am going to try and soften my pace by being in the moment and not spiraling into thinking ahead. I want to enjoy the extra long days by soaking in the beauty of my gardens and yard, entertaining when I’m able, eating outside as much as possible, and getting away for a week of camping.
I am going to try to let joy lead the way by laughing with Dale, growing flowers and sharing bouquets, hosting Pergola Thursdays weekly, and encouraging more dancing and moving and less sitting and scrolling,
While all of that might sound a little too ordered and prescribed to encourage much in the way of sway, my bottom line is to keep it all light and easy.
So here’s to my Summer of Sway – may it be full of gentle rhythms, golden light, and joy without urgency.

What a delightful way to think about summer, Carole! (and I really wish I could join you in not thinking about retirement options… I have to figure out all the parts of Medicare this summer. And it is not fun, just saying lol.) I instantly thought about the song, Sway! Thanks for that perfect ear worm for my Monday! XO
Carole-
This is an inspiration. Mary Oliver’s poem about Worry has been on my mind lately. You’ve captured that same yearning/hope so beautifully in your post.
I’ll be trying to emulate you.
Here’s to a summer of swaying!
This is just so wonderful Carole! A summer of SWAY sounds perfect. Easy going, carefree, fun. I think I need to join you. The idea of loosening your grip and softening your pace as joy leads the way is just beautiful. Thank you for this post.
I like the way you think!
I hope you can sway with the gentle breezes this summer!
Let the sway begin! Maybe add a little swish.
Sounds like a busy but delightful plan for your summer!
Sway away, my friend!
