I have some pictures to share with you today of our caping trip last week…
Weekend Glimmers, June 13th-15th, 2025

Saturday was our 28th wedding anniversary and we celebrated by going to the No Kings protest. Dale and I have both been to protests in the past but it’s been quite some time since we’ve been motivated to attend one so this was our first one together. As we were making our signs on Friday night I remarked, “If you had told me 28 years ago that this is what we’d be doing on our anniversary eve I never would have believed you.” And yet – here we are – joining in the fight for democracy.

We had a grand time.
We went with our town’s Democratic Committee over to Brockton and joined with about 300 other people in front of the VA Hospital there. The energy was fabulous, everyone was smiling and really upbeat and it was fun even though it was chilly and drizzly the whole time we were out there. The cars driving by were constantly waving and cheering us on with the exception of about 3 who flipped us off or screamed at us to go f*ck ourselves. But that was rare and we didn’t have any issues. The police were around and they were friendly and protecting the crowd and I’m grateful that it all went well.
My two favorite signs were “I’m not a paid protester, I hate tRump for free” and “If Harris had won we’d all be at brunch right now.” I heartily agree with both.
I’m still riding a bit of a wave from the good feelings created that day despite the horrific news out of Minnesota. I don’t know how long it will last but I’m grateful for the positive feelings I have in this moment.

Bravo to you! Your signs were awesome! The turn out everywhere was just so darned inspiring! This is the first Monday in a long time where hope is a burning brightly in my chest!
That good feeling comes from using your ability to voice your feelings and realizing you are not alone. This is why community is so critical right now. Great signs!
Bravo! The participation was wonderful to see, and I hope it can continue. I’d really like to keep us out of another war in the Middle East.
The energy this weekend was palpable! Your signs are terrific!!
P.S. Happy Anniversary!
Bravo and brava to you both! What a great way to spend an anniversary! THe turnout here was very good even though it was pouring rain. I hope the protests continue. I do believe they are influential in some ways.
Happy Anniversary!!
We also went to a No Kings protest on Saturday — a first for me (Rusty’s first since Viet Nam)! The energy was amazing.
I’m not sure attending a protest is a traditional anniversary celebration, but doesn’t it feel good to have a partner who shares your values? I’m so heartened by what I saw from all over the country, even as I was horrified by the news out of Minnesota. I’m glad you felt safe where you were.
I can’t imagine a better way to celebrate your anniversary than standing up for what you BOTH believe in . . . together as a TEAM! The protests I’ve taken part in here in KZ have been positive community (and community-building) events. It always makes me feel so . . . supported and seen and happy to be part of it! Happy (belated) anniversary to you and Dale! XO
Happy Anniversary!
I went to the protest here in Charleston, a small, red leaning college town. We had a great turnout of nearly 600 people! Things have got to get better! I have hope!
Happy Anniversary!
Love the signs!
Happy Anniversary!! It was great to see you there on Saturday. I felt very encouraged as well, especially with so many people driving by and cheering us on. Yes, the news from Minnesota was heartbreaking.
Happy anniversary! Looks like a perfect way to celebrate for the future.
