Weekend Glimmers, July 4th – 6th, 2025

Would you like to see the ONE photo I took all weekend?

Pizza on the deck with Dale. I used the Ooni pizza oven for the first time this season and my skills are a little rusty but it still tasted great.

There were plenty of other moments worth capturing and yet I just . . . didn’t.

The 4th was okay. I will go on record right now and say that I hated the 4th of July long before it was cool to hate the 4th of July, ifyouknowwhatImean. Dale was up and out early to go sing with his band in the Plymouth Parade and I had the morning to myself. I read on the deck. I made myself a coffee treat. I took stock of things in the garden. Psst. There are dahlia buds!

And the rest of the weekend looked much the same. More reading. More puttering around. More observing birds and enjoying our outdoor space.

I’m soaking in the summer while I can because the season is fleeting.

  1. One thing we noted (gratefully!) was that money must be tight in our neighborhood because the fireworks shot off on Friday night was moderate in comparison to other years … and Friday night was the only night any were shot off at all! I am counting this a win for all the neighborhood pets and wildlife! It was a super warm, muggy weekend here… I made note of some things in the garden that I need to try and divide this fall! I am glad you have dahlia buds!!

  2. That sounds like a lovely weekend Carole! Ours was quiet as well and, like Kat, fireworks around here didn’t seem as bad or as much in prior years.

  3. Fellow July 4th curmudgeon here, Carole. Not too many fireworks this year. Don’t know why, but I loved it, and so did my dog. I spent most of the weekend working in my yard and house. Yard in the morning, house in the afternoon. It was a very productive weekend, and I even finished a book in the evenings. Your photo is perfect. All the important things – Dale, wine, pizza, lovely deck. Have a great week.

  4. It was gloriously quiet (in terms of fireworks) last night — for the first time in a week! I admit that we contributed a little to the noise on the 4th, with some fireworks for the kids. That pizza looks amazing!!

  5. I haven’t felt especially patriotic in years, so I really didn’t care much about the holiday other than the fact that I got a day off from work without having to use any PTO. Like Kat, I didn’t hear many fireworks in the neighborhood, either, so either money is tight or my neighbors also weren’t in the mood. But I’m glad you had a relaxing summer weekend all the same!

  6. I haven’t felt especially patriotic or proud of our country, so I didn’t do anything for the 4th, except have a nice picnic at Justin’s. We’ve had fireworks in the neighborhood for a week or more, so I think it’s time for them to be DONE!

  7. I’ve never been a huge fan of the 4th, either. Although it’s nice to have a holiday – and the days off – in the middle of the summer! We had the QUIETEST 4th of July weekend EVER. Our neighborhood was . . . surprisingly low key this year. And I was thrilled!
