Memorial Day Weekend 2026 Recap

The weather was certainly not ideal but the weekend wasn’t a total washout and we had a great time with our camping friends at Sandy Pond.

There were campfires, of course.

And one fiery sunset that was a true beauty emergency.

Dale made fried dough for everyone on Saturday morning.

We ate very well, of course. There were several shared meals, including one big potluck turkey dinner with 16 people at multiple picnic tables. Dale and I also enjoyed our first meal together at the camper dining table.

Fred and George adapted quite well.

There was also reading and napping and golf cart rides and card games and many, many laughs.

TL;DR: we had a good time.

  1. I’m glad the weather didn’t upend your plans! That is certainly a stunning sunset.

  2. You guys eat just as well when you’re camping as you do at home! Someday I’m going to have to try fried dough; it was probably especially delicious cooked outdoors.

  3. Fantastic, Carole! That sunset… stunning! I hoped that the rather damp weekend was less damp there! XO

  4. What a gorgeous sunset!! Glad you were abled to have a good/great camping weekend despite the less than perfect weather. I bet the campfires felt great.

  5. So glad you had such a great weekend, Carole! And that sunset is just STUNNING! What a great time with friends. (And those cats! They are loving the camping life!) XO

  6. That sunset is the definition of “beauty emergency”! Sounds like a great weekend, Carole. It’s always a gamble with the weather!
