Acer At Last

June 18, 2009 By Carole

I can’t believe I finished my Acer sweater weeks and weeks ago and I am just now showing it to you. Sheesh. I guess it’s a true indicator of how cool the weather has been here lately since it’s mid-June and I’m wearing a wool sweater and I’m not too hot. In fact, I’m comfortable.

acer-sweater-front

Anyway, the temperature actually worked to my advantage and I was able to take these pictures yesterday to finally document this here sweater. The pattern comes from the very talented Kirsten. And the yarn comes from the very durable and very wearable Peace Fleece.

acer-sweater-back

I made the sweater a bit longer than the pattern called for and I’m glad I did as some of them look a little short to me. That’s fine if you’ve got the butt for it but me, I kind of like to cover it up.

acer-sweater-shoulder-increases

I will confess that the shoulder increases confused the crap out of me. I just couldn’t seem to get the hang of them and I’m still not sure I did them completely right but it looks okay so I’m good with that. Honestly, it was such a relief to finish these up and just knit rows and rows of stockinette.

acer-sweater-button

The buttons are from Saftler’s, which seems to be my go-to button shop these days. They haven’t let me down yet and I think these are perfect.

acer-sweater-leaning-on-stool

I’m glad the sweater is done and I’m glad I’ve had the chance to wear it without having to wait until this fall. Honestly, though, I’m ready for the warm weather. I’ll happily put this sweater away if summer ever arrives!

I like the close up photo, it really shows the specks of color and lends to its neutrality. The buttons are fab and it looks like it fits well too.

Great sweater! Beautiful! Your pictures are great, especially the last one. Love the buttons too. Thanks for sharing. Now maybe I’ll be re-inspired to finish the sweater I’m knitting in this 101 degree heat! 🙂

Oooo pretty sweater! It looks great on you. Love the yarn color choice and the buttons are perfect! Acer’s on my list of sweaters to knit but it is crazy hot & humid here, not good weather for knitting wool. 🙂

You look great in that. Sadly, it appears likely you will have more chances to wear that.

I love how your Acer sweater came out. It looks so good on you. I have the pattern but haven’t found the yarn I want to use yet. I’ll have to do a search to find the button store you mentioned. Is it a local store or a web store? I know what you mean about the weather, it’s been so cold here in New England too and feels like summer will never come.

I’ve been teetering on the edge with starting an Acer – you may have pushed me right over…
    Beautiful sweater, perfect buttons.
And, yeah, wouldn’t a little warm weather in June be nice?
    Brrr.

I never would have thought Peace Fleece would be a good choice for that sweater, thinking it would be too “stiff” — but boy, have you proved me wrong! It has a nice drape and will provide you with decades of wear!

What an awesome sweater! So cute on you. Don’t travel here if you want to wear it, though; we have high humidity and temps heading into the 90s forecasted for the week ahead. Ick!

Carole, that is fantastic! I know what you mean about still wearing wool sweaters; they say it was the fourth warmest May on record (in Vermont, I think), but I didn’t feel it.

I’m enjoying your closeup photos, too. Lovely hummingbird. My BIL rescued one that was trapped in his entryway last year, and he told me when it kept flying into the window, its beak was actually very soft and bendy. Who knew?
