Ten On Tuesday

You know when it comes to Ten on Tuesday that I’m all about keeping it positive. And I think today’s topic is a positive one even though it could be construed differently. Have I made you curious? The topic comes from Joanne at Rhythm of Needles and it’s 10 Things You Wish You Liked.

no worries, I definitely like peonies!

  1. Exercising. This is still my goal, to like exercising. It helps knowing that even people who exercise regularly don’t necessarily like it.
  2. Making salad. I love to eat salad and I know I’d eat a lot more of it if I liked making it. Honestly, though I abhor making a salad.
  3. Crocheting. I keep trying and thinking that if I did it more I’d learn to like it but it hasn’t happened yet.
  4. Hiking. I have friends who go on these cool hikes and it sounds great. And then I get out there and I get winded and sweaty and I hate it. I do like the part of hiking that involves having a picnic, though.
  5. Cleaning. I could save a lot of money if I didn’t hire someone else to do this.
  6. Winter. It’s no secret that I love spring and summer and all that goes along with those seasons. I wish I could like winter, though, so that I wouldn’t be so miserable when it’s here.
  7. Meditating. It’s supposed to be really great to clear you mind and just be but I have such a hard time with this. I think about all the things I should be doing instead.
  8. Math. I do what I have to do for work (budgets, spreadsheets, statistics)  but I sure don’t enjoy it.
  9. Reading the paper. I know it’s a great way to keep up on local news but I hate the smell of the ink and I hate getting it on my hands. I find the whole thing just annoying. Thank goodness for Facebook and online newspapers.
  10. Stacking firewood. I put this on here for Dale because I knew HE really wishes I liked doing this. Heh.

  1. Right now it’s paying bills, billing people for my services, reminding people to pay my bills, and transitioning our daughter home from college. Blargh! Glad I got that off my chest!

  2. I wish I liked watermelon – or any melon. I envy folks who get a “good” watermelon then make all kinds of noises bordering on the Meg Ryan scene in When Harry Met Sally. I just don’t get it, but I know I’m missing out!

  3. I eat a lot more salads when they are composed of lots of tasty things. To keep the work to a minimum, I prep quite a few of those ‘things’ in larger quantities than needed for a single salad or meal. Cucumber? Slice up about half of it and stash in a sealable container or zip bag and back into the crisper. Same with carrots, green onions, fresh greens, peppers – most of which will keep close to a week. I also keep small, easily reachable containers of toasted almonds, dried fruit, crumbled cheese, chopped cooked bacon, even hard boiled eggs in either the pantry or fridge. It’s easy to pull together an entree salad while the chicken (or whatever) is cooking on the grill. Next thing you know you’re eating tasty healthy stuff!

  4. I’m with you on salad … I love salad & know we should eat more, but making it? Ugh! Exercising is on my list, as is cleaning. I also wish I liked baking. I love all the pies, cakes, cupcakes, cookies, etc., that everyone makes – I just despise making them myself. Much rather buy them.

  5. I’m with you on many items on your list. I would add 30″/day on the stationary bike, raw oatmeal, and mashed avocado and sardine; my husband is a fan of those, and he is very thin. Just not fair.

  6. Neal is the salad-maker in our house! I make it if I must, but it tastes better when he makes it. This was a fun topic!

  7. really enjoyed this one – we have a few in common, too (hello, crochet!). and don’t you feel like you’d be a completely different person if those ten things changed?!

  8. We have a few items in common on our lists. I agree with the salad making. I would eat more if it were readily available. And crochet – I do enjoy it, but it just hurts my wrist. So in turn it becomes not enjoyable at all.

  9. This is a terrific topic–I’m with you on making salad, cleaning, meditating and math. It’s really funny because at school I was known as the English teacher who could do math..but I’ve always had this feeling of regret that I never had a math teacher who really inspired me!

  10. On the exercise front, when I really don’t feel like doing anything, I tell myself I’m going to walk just long enough to listen to a favorite podcast or part of an audiobook. I save certain podcasts just for this – then it’s a treat to get out walking.

I have the same relationship with salads, but salads are one green item my family will all eat without complaint. The bags of mixed greens are a godsend. You can rinse and spin and then bag them with a folded paper towel – they will last a while, and then you can separately store some chopped veggies to throw on top.

  11. I’m with you on the salad too! Don’t know what it is…Doug makes one almost every night for lunch but his ingredients are nothing I’m interested in!

  12. I hear you with the newspaper…I have to wash my hands pronto after I peruse mine.

Maybe, I just don’t like getting my hands dirty in general…(camping, house cleaning, gardening…see the pattern?)

  13. When the e-mail first arrived I was stymied as my brain immediately jumped to foods and there are very few I dislike if they are cooked properly. But after reading so many posts today I think I *might* get to play along this evening…

  14. I’m with you on the salad thing. Love to eat ’em, but often go with a cooked vegie with dinner because it’s easier.
