Ten On Tuesday

October 29, 2013 By Carole

There’s something truly wonderful about an unexpected day off – a day off during the week when you don’t have an appointment or a commitment or anything except a wonderful day to spend doing whatever you want. Here are the 10 Things I Love To Do When I Get an Unexpected Day Off:

mason and knitting

  1. Knit, knit, knit.
  2. Catch up on TV. This goes hand in hand with #1.
  3. Read. It’s nice to have some daylight hours for reading since usually my reading time is reserved for when I climb into bed at night. And then I fall asleep before I read very much.
  4. Cook something yummy for dinner – something like a pot roast or a chicken that I can start at 3:00 and then forget about until dinner time. It makes the house smell fantastic, too.
  5. Bake. A day off is a great chance to bake some cookies for the people I love.
  6. Exercise without hurrying. I love that I can extend my walk to include a longer distance because I don’t have to get to work or get home to make dinner or get to a meeting.
  7. Snuggle with the cat. Mason loves it when we have couch time together.
  8. Organize something. Even on a day off I feel guilty if I’m completely indulgent so I like to include a bit of time to organize a drawer or put some things away.
  9. Take photos. Process photos. The time is quickly approaching where I’m not home during daylight hours and that makes photography a bit of a challenge. I love being home in the afternoon when the light is perfect.
  10. Peruse Pinterest. I love finding inspiration for home improvement, redecorating, crafting and cooking.

Those are the things I love to do when I’m home from work. How about you? If you wrote a post on today’s topic be sure and add your link below. And if you want to subscribe to the Ten on Tuesday email list just click here.

MASON!!! Love it when you include him in your posts…he’s a sweetie. I can mostly agree with everything you said – the photography, now that’s something I hadn’t thought of – the light (or rather the lack of it) is bound to affect it.
(and oh, yeah, that light is quickly fading, isn’t it?)

I didn’t have time to put together a list this week, but I would do something outdoors, weather permitting. If the weather was uncooperative I’d do much of what you’ve listed (other than the cat). 🙂 xoxo

    Pretty Mason! 😀
I’d like do most everything you listed but I usually end up having to do housework that I’ve put off from some other time.

It’s getting to be that time of year when I peruse Pinterest more frequently. That’s another thing I hate about less daylight is the photo ops are not as great. Blehhhh….

You’re going to be so tired, you’ll need a day off! Great list!

I love all my days off — and so happy that my schedule is such that I do get a day off every week — but the extra/unexpected are special!! Our lists are VERY similar. 😉

I hope you have (or had) an unexpected day off soon to enjoy all of this. Especially your house in the daylight. Hate these short, dark days that are coming….

I’d probably catch up on some laundry, but I’d knit and relax between loads!

If there’s one thing the pandemic has been good If there’s one thing the pandemic has been good for, it’s my sourdough game. I actually started learning about making sourdough bread a week before the stay at home orders thanks to @sprboston as he shared his starter and recipe and technique with me. Since then I have kept Mama Cass fed and alive and have baked many loaves of bread. This one might be my best one yet. I did the final proof in the fridge for 24 hours and baked it from its cold state. Great spring and ear and crumb, it was delicious with dinner tonight. #sourdough #sourdoughbread #lookatthatcrumb #lookatthatear #homebakedbread #imadeitmyself #homemadeisbest
