Christmas Cookie Day

  • Food

Last Wednesday I packed up my mixer and I hit the road for Doreen’s house for our annual cookie baking day. This is year 3 and it’s come to be a day I look forward to more and more each year.

She has a beautiful home and a lovely kitchen with enough space for both of us to spread out and mix, roll, press, bake and cool to our heart’s content.

We made Cherry Chocolate Kisses, Ginger Cookies, Peanut Butter Balls, Spritz, and Hidden Kisses. In other words, we were busy and baking all afternoon! And we make a great team because, while I don’t mind mixing and dipping, I don’t like rolling all those little balls. Doreen on the other hand, doesn’t enjoy dipping so much but she doesn’t mind rolling at all.

Of course despite our ambitious list of cookies to make, we made time for wine, too! And we wore our Naughty and Nice aprons, although, once again, she was the nice one. I guess, despite my face, that’s pretty appropriate since Doreen is one of the nicest people I know.

I’m so glad we started this tradition. I made cookies and candy this weekend (Gingerbread Men, Confetti Cookies, Spiral Christmas Cookies, Salted Chocolate Toffee, and Chocolate Peppermint Candies) and it wasn’t nearly as fun without her!

  1. Mmm … they all look delicious! If you are looking for post ideas this week, I would love the recipes for those cherry chocolate kisses and chocolate peppermint candy!

  2. Baking is so much more fun with a friend! What a great tradition for the two of you — and look at all those cookies! YUM!!!

  3. Does a stand mixer make cookie-baking faster? I was just thinking yesterday that maybe I should get one.

  4. This is a wonderful tradition, and it is what the season is about, friendship, fellowship, good will, and baked goods! HA ha ha… I have lost my baking buddy, so I need to find a new one. Nothing is better than wine and a good friend to bake with at the holidays. Those cookies look soooooo good.

  5. You know a people are Serious Cookie Bakers when they have two KitchenAid mixers going! (Would you share your recipe for cherry chocolate kisses?)

  6. To much fun! I used to get together with a bunch of friends when our kids were little and do the same thing. It might have been a bit more chaotic, and did not include adult beverages lol. Which I am wondering today why on earth we didn’t!

  7. I bake the family Christmas bread recipe (my husband says that when he takes that first bite it’s like his mom is back for a minute… how could you pass up providing that feeling for someone you love?!). This was the third year that my daughter-in-law has helped me bake it and we have such a good time together. We make a good team, either of us picking up the next step, whatever that next step might be, and we make a day of it. It’s become one of my favorite days of the year.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours!
