Three On Thursday

Today I have 3 random things . . . hacks . . . advice . . . whatever you want to call them . . . to share with you.

  1. I got an Air Fryer last November and I love it so much. It’s great for frozen french fries and homemade chicken nuggets and fried shrimp and chicken wings and so much more! I saw a great way to clean it that I now use every time I use it and I thought I’d share it here in case you might find it useful. Anyway. Fill the fryer basket with a bit of Dawn dish detergent and some water. Put it back in the Air Fryer at 350Β° for 2 minutes. Take it out and rinse and wa-la . . . it’s clean.
  2. I think we’re all aware that the use of pronouns has changed in recent years. And I think most of us (I’d love to say all of us but I know we aren’t there yet) want to use the pronouns that an individual chooses. But. What I’ve often seen is the use of the phrase preferred pronouns and I think that needs to stop. All a human needs to say is: these are my pronouns and just leave out that preferred bit. To illustrated the point, my name is Carole. If someone calls me Joan, I don’t say, my preferred name is Carole. I just say my name is Carole. Get my point? And, by the way, my pronouns are she/her/hers.
  3. I saw a meme recently (more than once so it was clearly a sign) that said something to the effect of, I’ve spent hours feeling anxious about doing a task that literally took 5 minutes to do. And I thought: YES. I have needed to write a letter of support for Kiwanis from the Board of Selectmen for about 3 weeks. I’ve spent so much time thinking about it and putting it off and then yesterday I just did it and it took about 5 minutes. Just as the meme says, though, I will learn nothing from this.

And that’s it for this Thursday. If you wrote a post for today, I hope you will include your link below.

  1. Oh, that meme is so . . . spot on. I agonize over doing some of the most straightforward, simple things. Sigh. And YES to the pronouns. But I will never be an Air Fryer person . . . πŸ˜‰

  2. I love this spot on call out on pronouns… And I have heard it said more from those who aren’t there yet as if they “prefer” not to use it, but have called it out so they look like they are totally there.

Oh… and add me to the Not an Air Fryer person list. (I might, but we have ZERO counter space at all in the kitchen… grrrrr!)

  3. No Air Fryer here, and I completely understand dropping preferred with the pronouns. I may try that the next time somebody misspells my name. I have to gather stuff to get my taxes done and I’ve been putting it off for a week. It will involve going to Staples to print, but I hope it’s less complicated than my procrastination makes it seem in my mind.

  4. I feel pretty proud that my employer has been ahead of the curve in pronouns and in specifically saying that we’re not calling them preferred pronouns. (Also, for all those man-babies whining about pronouns, my kid has zero problems using her classmates’ pronouns, including the one who uses they/them.)

Ooof, I feel that meme so much!

  5. What kind of air fryer do you have, Carole? I have thought about getting one, but I have such a crowded kitchen counter already, I have said no, so far…
I don’t really understand the pronoun issue, but I agree that we should call people what they want to be called. It’s just not automatic with me yet.
I do try, and I am successful about 50% of the time, to just do small tasks immediately. I try to focus on the fact that it is such a relief when it is done. No more brain space spent on that issue!

  6. Perfect Meme! So true. Agree with the pronoun thing. We got an air fryer a few months ago. I have zero counter space and I don’t use it every day, so mine is on a shelf (along with my crock pot, food processor and bread machine. Mine is completely non-stick, so I have not had any issues cleaning it, but that is a great idea with the dish detergent and turning it on!

  7. I agree with the pronouns being pronouns. What a great analogy with the name.

I love that meme. We call it “eating the frog”. If you have to eat a frog (task you’re avoiding) eat it first and nothing worse still lies ahead of you.

β€œEat a live frog first thing in the morning and nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day.”

Quote credited to Mark Twain, and utilized by self-help guru Brian Tracy. Do I follow that advice? Not all the time, however I did it on Sunday morning and had such a great rest of the day.

    1. I love this idea of “eating your frog”, Mary. I think it’s a great approach and a memorable one. Thanks for sharing.

  8. Excellent on the pronouns! And yes to what Sarah said! No air fryer here. I’ve managed to dodge the instant and the air fryer! πŸ™‚

  9. I am way too familiar with the meme situation -and with learning nothing from the experience. And agree with you 100% with the pronouns!

  10. yes, yes, and YES! I’ve had three cards to write for *ahem* two weeks now … and I made myself do it this morning and it took less than 30 minutes (including walking them out to the mailbox).
