Ten On Tuesday

It’s November in Massachusetts and that means it’s gray and cold outside. The leaves are gone and on Sunday night and Monday we had a rain/freezing rain/snow mix. Ugh. You can imagine why that was my inspiration for this week’s Ten on Tuesday topic: 10 Dream Vacations.

Palm Trees on Sanibel

  1. Hawaii. Okay, this one might actually be attainable since Dale’s very-good-friend from high school lives there and is always inviting us to visit.
  2. Tahiti. Totally because of One Particular Harbour.
  3. Turkey. I’ve wanted to visit Istanbul since I took Art History in college. Seeing Hagia Sophia in person is on my bucket list.
  4. A cruise around the Greek Islands. Everyone I know who has been to Santorini says it’s the most beautiful place on earth.
  5. A house on the beach on Cape Cod. Okay, to make this dream worthy, it needs to be right on the beach and it needs to be huge and have big windows that take in all the views of the ocean. It needs to come with a staff that prepares my meals. And wi-fi. Definitely wi-fi.
  6. Austria. I’ve wanted to go since the first time I saw The Sound of Music.
  7. Italy. Florence, Venice, Rome, Tuscany, I’d want the time to visit them all. Listen, I’d basically eat my way from one end of the country to the other.
  8. A trip across our country visiting all the national parks. In a fancy-ass RV, of course.
  9. An African safari. The kind where you sleep in a luxurious tent and eat fabulous food and have everyone else do all the work while you do all the sight-seeing and relaxing.
  10. A ranch big enough to hold all my blogging/knitting/spinning friends. I’d want you all there with me – now that would be a dream!

You know what they say – dream on!

  1. Great list. I’d love to go back to Istanbul and also go visit the Greek Islands that we never got to when I lived there. Oh and there is Maui too. #10 would be a blast!

  2. Fun list! I’d love to eat my way through Italy and Spain. Your mention of Istanbul has popped the They Might Be Giants song about the name change in my head! Oy!

  3. I’d love to go on one of those knitting camps. On the other hand, one of those barges on French rivers would be nice. These days you can actually make Italian food as good as you can get in Italy. But the food in France is really special.

  4. This is such a great list and I would love to visit every single place, especially Turkey, Greece and Italy. Your Ranch idea is most excellent!!

  5. Great list. I’ve been to a few of the places on your list and agree that you should try to get to them. Hawaii is definitely worth it; you should go while you have a free place to stay! My husband and I are going to Istanbul this spring because he has a friend living there who keeps inviting us.

  6. Let me know when # 10 happens.

And I would add to your list a visit to the Scottish Highlands. Absolutely beautiful, and more sheep than humans…

  7. I’ll join you on any of those fabulous trips! On my “must see” list is Mount Rushmore–another one of those HS fanatasies!

  8. Turkey? You might enjoy this blog: http://layingfallow.com/turkeyblog/
The writer is a college English instructor in Duluth, MN, who on her sabbatical year took her family (husband and 2 kids, ~10-yo girl and ~7-yo boy) to live in Turkey. She is a great and highly entertaining writer, and I have been following her regular blog for a couple years.

  9. I can’t believe I forgot an African safari on my list! And the Greek Isles! There are just sooooo many places I want to go, hard to narrow them down to 10. Wonderful topic, loved it!!

  10. I think I didn’t dream enough. I missed the unattainable “large enough to hold everyone” item on my list – a ranch, a knitter’s party bus… Clearly I need to work on this “dream” thing 🙂

  11. Very nice list of dream vacations! I don’t necessarily enjoy the “getting there” part of a vacation so my dream vacation would involve me being beamed somewhere like on Star Trek. 🙂

  12. This list begs the question, where have you been? These are all fabulous places. Sounds like it is time to schedule a vacation!
