Wine Dinner

On Tuesday night my grrlfriends Wendy, Sharon, Lois and I attended a wine dinner at a local restaurant. The four of us hadn’t been all together for a fun night out in ages so this was way overdue. And it was way fun!

The wines were all from Cupcake Vineyards and the spokesperson for the company was entertaining and informative. He introduced each course and explained why the wine would accompany that particular food. He talked about how wine should be fun and not pretentious and he encouraged us to taste and think about why we liked what we liked. He also walked around and answered questions while pouring wine.

There were 4 different wines, one for each course. With the grilled romaine salad we had a Chardonnay. With the red pepper bisque we had a Sauvignon Blanc. With the rolled and stuffed pork tenderloin we had a Malbec. Finally, with the chicken we had Red Velvet, a blend of Zinfandel, Merlot and  Cabernet Sauvignon. The Red Velvet was definitely my favorite. I’m no wine connoisseur but it was full bodied and fruity and a little bit spicy. I think Sharon and I are going to split a case, that’s how much I liked this one.

Four glasses of wine along with some really delicious food and the company of my dear grrlfriends made for a memorable evening. It was just the thing to brighten up a Tuesday night in January.

  1. LOVE Cupcake wines!! The Riesling is good as well!! I’ve never seen the Red Velvet out there. I will have to look that one up 🙂

  2. Cupcake’s Sauvignon Blanc is my go-to wine when I just want a crisp glass in the evenings. Sadly, the only reds I can drink are pinot noir or syrah – unless I’m drinking organic. Must be the sulfites. Sounds like an excellent way to spend an evening!!

  3. That sounds like so much fun! About a year ago a few of us started a Women’s Wine Club and we travel to a vineyard monthly to taste wine. We have so much fun trying out local wineries!

  4. Delurking to say I LOVE CUPCAKE WINES! 🙂

Some other good ones to try are Guilty & Plungerhead. Those three will always make up whatever case I’m currently buying.

  5. LOVE cupcake vineyards. 🙂 I do like their malbec, but haven’t tried the two whites (i’m not much for white)

  6. I love going to wine dinners. Sadly, the menu does not normally work for Larry. Sigh. There’s a weekly wine social at a local tapas restaurant that I’d love to go to, but sadly, it conflicts with SnB.

  7. Sounds wonderful! My sister brought over some Cupcake wine for dinner on New Years Eve, it was white, which I am super pickyabout, and I loved it.(not sure if it was the sauvignon blanc or chardonnay). I may or may not have emptied half the bottle with my hor doevres.

  8. I had the Cupcake Chardonnay a couple of weekends ago and it was delish! Thanks for refreshing my memory–I tend to forget wines I’ve had and liked.

  9. I’m so glad you all had a great time!

That’s a lot like the Wine 101 class I bought my sister-in-law (and myself) for Christmas! We went and tasted and learned and fell in love with the last wine in the 5 we tried – with a dark chocolate truffle!
Oh my..fun, interesting, and – dare I say it – RICH!
    (((hugs)))

  10. Thanks Carole , just so everyone knows, Carole gatheredcus together for this wonderful evening . I am blessed to have such good friends
