Come Monday Morning

I’ve always loved the song Come  Saturday Morning. Do you know it? Here’s a portion of the lyrics:

Come Saturday morning
I’m going away with my friend
We’ll Saturday-spend til the end of the day
Just I and my friend
We’ll travel for miles in our Saturday smiles
And then we’ll move on
But we will remember long after Saturday’s gone

This song is on my mind because even though today is Monday it will have a Saturday feel. You see, I’m taking the day off from work to spend with my friend Jo-Ann. Our first order of business is to bring Hannah back to school. And then we will have lunch. And then we will go someplace neither of us has ever been before.

WEBS.

Yes, it’s true, I’m a knitter in Massachusetts and I’ve never been to WEBS. If all goes according to plan, by the end of the day I will no longer be able to say that.

Which brings to mind another song. This one is a little more modern. Okay, so you need to change the word “night” to “day” but you get my point, I’m sure.

I gotta feeling that tonight’s gonna be a good night
That tonight’s gonna be a good night
That tonight’s gonna be a good, good night

Woooooohooooooooo!

  1. I love that song! Have you seen the movie The Sterile Cuckoo with Liza Minelli? They play the song over and over. First trip to WEBS! Oh boy, you are in for a treat. I’m planning a trip in April; hope I can use some will power! And tonight will be a good night as you swoon over your yarny purchases!

  2. Love WEBS!!! I am hoping Mike goes to UMASS for several reasons. One it is affordable and second I can see regular trips to WEBS in the future!!! Enjoy!!!!

  3. Have a wonderful time! You’ll have a blast! Don’t forget the back warehouse room-lol.

  4. Don’t forget to go into the warehouse…. I have a knitting friend who went 6 times and never understood the draw b/c she never wandered past the front room! 🙂

  5. For years, I drove from “here” to see Mom (Plymouth) and then up to see my sister (NH) and back to here. The return from my sister is directly past WEBS. I (purposely) left my sister’s at 6 am -to avoid traffic and the possibility that WEBS would be open.

Now I just do the route in reverse and call WEBS a “rest stop”.

So you’ve made it through Hannah’s first year (almost!) without a stop at WEBS? Maybe she’ll go for a graduate degree …

  6. Love your choices of songs! And I am soooo jealous you are going to
Webs! Have a very fun day.

  7. I am sure you will have a great time. I hope you have set aside at least an hour for your trip, although to be honest I can easily spend a couple of hours wandering the aisles in back. The yarn is great, but I have to say the staff is even more great. They are always happy to help no matter what your question is. My mom and I were there last week and we asked for directions to another store and the woman looked it up for us. If you are in need of food before or after I highly recommend Sylvester’s right up the road. Enjoy!

  8. Remember that ‘first day of school’ feeling, when you’d wake up early and be a little excited and jittery … yeah, I’ve got that! I’m excited to spend the day with my dearest friend, excited for a nice lunch, and thrilled to finally be visiting WEBS! I’ve told the husband it will be dark before he sees me, LOL!

  9. Love that song from the movie The Sterile Cuckoo. Wow reading those lyrics brought back memories of watching that movie for the first time when I was in college

  10. Woohoo indeed! I’m looking forward to a full report because I’ve never been there either.

  11. What a treat – you will L-O-V-E WEBS! Check out the back room – it’s amazing! Now that you mention it – a trip for myself is in order….in due time! Can’t wait to hear about your first impressions!

  12. LOVE that song from Sterile Cuckoo (although I must give thanks to other commenters for the name of the movie. I remembered that Liza Minelli starred in the movie, but had forgotten the title.) When my husband (then still my fiancee) was in grad school, it was our “theme song” since Saturdays were almost the only day we could see each other.

I’ve never been to WEBS either, but I’m planning a “field trip” with my sisters real soon.

I’m looking forward to hearing about your trip.

  13. Sounds like a very fun day. Shopping at the actual WEBS is a dream of mine too! I’m wishing you have a fantastic day! Please tell us all about it Carole.

  14. I hope tomorrows 10 on Tuesday is the 10 things you bought at WEBS – or we will have to wait till Wednesday to find out. Hope you had a great time! It is a fun fun place 🙂

  15. OMG….I love that Saturday song!!!! I never ever hear it though on the radio, not even on the 70’s XM station. 🙁

You are going to have fun! Be prepared to be overwhelmed when you see the back room!

  16. I hope you had a blast!! I also hope you brought along a camera for those of us on the west coast to relive the WEBS experience!

  17. Enjoy Webs! It sounds like a blast of a trip. Your song lyrics remind me of one of my all time Garfunkel tunes, Saturday Suit:
All week long we’ve been sitting on our
    islands looking within
Sometimes I know it must seem like
    we’ll never be happy again
    Put on your makeup
    And I’ll shine my shoes
    I know that it’s Monday, but I’m
    bored with the blues

Why don’t you put on your Saturday Suit,
    Let’s fly away,
We can find ourselves a little cafe
Where the street people come to play
And let the wine and the sunshine
    blow our minds away
    Saturday Suit me fine today

  18. Hope you had fun at WEBS. I just got a gift card from WEBS for my birthday and have been planning what I’m going to get.

  19. …sounds like you planned the perfect afternoon to follow dropping off Hannah. sure hope webs lived up to its reputation!!
