Ten On Tuesday
I love the Oscars and so I simply must share my thoughts on the show with all of you. I know this might not be a hugely popular topic but I did offer my subscribers a couple of other options so hopefully everyone will still find a way to participate. And now, 10 Thoughts on This Year’s Oscar Show.
- I thought Cate Blanchette was fantastic. Her dress was my absolute favorite and her speech – the world is round, people – was great. Her performance in Blue Jasmine was definitely Oscar worthy.
- I also thought Matthew McConaughey totally deserved to win for Best Actor and his speech was also fantastic. He managed to give a condensed philosophy of life and he did it without getting played off stage – well done!
- I thought it was great that Let It Go won for Best Song. I’ve heard some criticism of Idina Menzel’s performance (and what was up with John Travolta butchering her name?!) but I think she’s wonderful. And the writers of the song, Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, gave one of the most creative acceptance speeches I’ve ever heard.
- I’m sad that Philomena didn’t win any Oscars. It was actually my favorite of all of this year’s Best Picture nominees.
- My least favorite was Gravity – and boy did that one clean up! I guess I’m just not into movies in space. Or something. It left me unmoved.
- The All Star Selfie was brilliant.
- And speaking of brilliant, Ellen Degeneres. The pizza bit was hilarious and I cracked up when she came out dressed as Glinda the Good Witch after the Wizard of Oz tribute. I did think her crack at Liza Minnelli was a little mean.
- Jared Leto is hot. Oh, that hair.
- Jonah Hill is the spitting image of his mom.
- I am still disappointed that The Butler and Saving Mr. Banks were ignored.
Those are my thoughts – I hope you all enjoyed the show! If you wrote a post for today be sure and add your link below. And if you want to receive the Ten on Tuesday email each week then please click here to subscribe.

Because I rarely see movies and don’t know many of the new stars, I feel quite behind the times when I watch the Oscars. But the fashions keep me interested and Ellen made the night worth watching. This is the first Oscar show I’ve made it through in 3 years.
Great list Carole – I too love the Oscars. I also saw all the movies nominated and I didn’t care for Gravity. I felt it was not Oscar worthy. I did love Dallas Buyers Club and 12 Years a Slave. Ellen did a fantastic job. I just wish the show wasn’t so long! I was dragging all day yesterday.
I loved The Oscars! Ellen had a couple of questionable barbs, but was otherwise wonderful! Billy Crystal is still my hands-down favorite host… with big shoes. 🙂
I thought Gravity (which I saw in 3D) was spectacular in terms of visual effects — and that’s about as close to being in outer space as I’ll ever get — but I don’t think it deserved quite the accolades bestowed. Not by a long shot.
I watched the entire thing, and loved it! Ellen was brilliant – loved the pizza gag and then collecting money in the hat. I didn’t see any of the nominated movies, but want to see quite a few of them eventually. Loved the Lopez’ acceptance speech as well 🙂
Agreed, except for favorite dress. And Ellen was a little mean here and there. We count on her humor to be “nice.” I heard that one of the writers of “Let It Go” went to UNH, my alma mater!
I have no desire to see Gravity – I get claustrophobic watching the previews. I love how so many brought their moms. Very cool. I don’t think Liza was too thrilled about Ellen’s comment either!
I was happy because my dear wife had just returned after a long absence and I wouldn’t have known what was going on Oscarwise without her, plus she made good food!
I was hoping Nebraska would pull off an upset, it was my favorite with Dallas Buyer’s Club a close second!
I love looking at the dresses and tuxes. Best part of the whole show. Many seemed to be more conservatively dressed this year. Many neutral colors and not so much double sided tape needed! 😉
I’m looking forward to watching the rest of the show and will see Dallas Buyers Club this weekend if it’s the last thing I do! I love the fashion too. 😉
I agree with you on a lot of it although Cate Blanchette’s dress wasn’t my favorite. I’m glad that I saw all of the movies even if I had to force myself to see Gravity and Her.
I’m not a big Oscars fan, but I did put it on when I went to bed. I thought Cate Blanchet’s dress was really lovely and I loved Matthew McConaughey’s speech. Alright alright alright 🙂
I also loved the commercials. Tina Fey is the best – even selling AmEx!
I like space movies, but Gravity didn’t do it for me either.
I’m also sad that Saving Mr. Banks was ignored. And while I would have lived to see The Wind Rises take best animated feature, at least it went to my second choice, Frozen.
