Ten On Tuesday

My love of food is well known. My love of comfort food even more so, I’m sure. I kind of can’t believe we’ve never had this as a Ten On Tuesday topic but I checked the archives and I couldn’t find it. And even if we have, food topics are always a big hit. All of this to say that this week’s Ten On Tuesday topic is My 10 Favorite Comfort Foods.

  1. Mashed Potatoes & Gravy. The best food in the world, especially if it’s with my mom’s gravy.
  2. Macaroni & Butter. When I don’t have anything else to have for lunch or dinner this is my go-to choice..
  3. Roast Chicken. Served with #1 and also homemade stuffing.
  4. Macaroni & Cheese. With lots of cheese and maybe some diced ham, too.
  5. Miriam’s Soup. This is actually Goodman’s Noodleman Soup but my mom’s best friend Miriam always made it for me and I will always call it Miriam’s Soup.
  6. Meatloaf & Baked Potato. No gravy, just ketchup on the meatloaf and butter, salt & pepper on the potato.
  7. Egg salad sandwich. My all time favorite lunch.
  8. Fried Chicken. I’d be so happy to have my mom’s friend chicken again. It was the absolute best. Mine is good but not quite as good as hers.
  9. Pot Roast. My go-to company’s coming dinner. Cooked long and slow and served with – you guessed it – mashed potatoes & gravy.
  10. Chicken & Rice Soup. Simple and homemade with carrots and celery. Comfort in a bowl, that’s for sure.

So many good comfort foods to choose from! I hope you wrote a post for today. Please share it with us by adding your link below. Click here to subscribe to the weekly Ten On Tuesday email newsletter.

  1. It’s going to be one of those Ten-on-Hungry-Tuesday weeks! I thought about putting YOUR pot roast on my list of comfort foods. (Because YUM!) XO

  2. Notice a theme? Lots of potatoes in evidence. One of my favorites–salmon chowder with lots of potatoes!

  3. Mac and cheese is especially amazing with seafood. Just sayin…

Your list is awesome, and I think there is some menu planning in here!

  4. The lists today may be providing my meal ideas for the next week or more. I love all the things on your list, and will most likely be having egg salad for lunch today!

  5. At the risk of sounding like a scene from “When Harry Met Sally”. Mashed potatoes with gravy, but cream gravy or nothing. Still the mashed potatoes, but no gravy. Then either just butter or bacon and sharp cheddar. And if they aren’t real mashed potatoes, then nothing at all.” Yes, I have mashed potato opinions, why do you ask?

  6. Macaroni and butter was one of the things my mom and grandmother made for us when we weren’t feeling well. I still make it when I’m under the weather. It just makes you feel good!

  7. Here’s my list, no particular order. I hate to say it but these meals are my favorite because I make them.

    1. Fried Chicken with Buttered Rice and Corn on the Cob.
    2. Spaghetti and Meatballs
    3. Roasted Pork Butt with Slaw and Potato Salad
    4. Roasted Corned Beef with Mashed Potatoes, and Braised Browned Cabbage & Carrots
    5. Shake and Bake Chicken Thighs with Chicken Rice a Roni and Peas
    6. Pot Roast with Carrots, Parsnips, Onions, and Mashed Potatoes

    8. Cauliflower Cheese Soup with Garlic Bread
    9. Smoked Brisket with Cole Slaw and Baked Beans
    10. Roast Chicken with Sausage Stuffing, Mashed Potatoes, and Angry Carrots.

  8. •Curly mac ‘n cheese with LOBSTER!
•Mashed potatoes and peas with lots of butter, and you can pick up a forkful of potato, run it through the peas and make the peas stick to the potato…….childish and still fun.
•New love – chicken soup with chicken wontons which conveniently come in a bag, frozen.

  9. My list was potato heavy, but I forgot to include mashed potatoes! Especially homemade mashed potatoes… yum. And Mac & Cheese. Very yum.

  10. Gravy = Nature’s Most Perfect Food. I count it among my greatest achievements that I learned to make good gravy.

  11. Yay for macaroni and cheese and egg salad. Roast chicken is also on my list, and I love that it’s a healthy treat.
