Ten On Tuesday

A week or so ago my friend Anne and I were discussing movies that we can’t help but watch if we’re channel surfing. And then last weekend Dale and I were talking about it, too. (For him it’s Grease, in case you wondered.) During that conversation with Dale I realized that this would make a great Ten On Tuesday topic. And so, I present, the 10 Movies I Have to Stop & Watch While I’m Channel Surfing.

popcorn blog size

  1. Steel Magnolias. One of the best ensemble casts ever.
  2. The Godfather. All that drama, it gets me every time.
  3. When Harry Met Sally. My most favorite romantic comedy ever.
  4. Dirty Dancing. Nobody flips past baby.
  5. Casablanca. It’s a classic for a reason.
  6. Gone With the Wind. I definitely prefer the first half over the second half and I prefer to shut it off before Rhett leaves Scarlett even though I know she’ll get him back.
  7. Love Actually. It’s not just for Christmas.
  8. The Sound of Music. And I sing along, too.
  9. Pretty Woman. Another Julia Roberts movie with the best ending ever.
  10. The Blindside. Because Sandra Bullock.

Ones that didn’t make the cut but I really wanted to include? Forrest Gump, The Big Chill, The Shining, Hope Floats, A League of Their Own and The Green Mile.

If you wrote a list for today please share your link below. And, in case you didn’t realize it, you have until Friday of every week to add your link – for those of you who may not get to Ten On Tuesday on, you know, Tuesday.

  1. Somersby, any of the Die Hard movies, Mrs. Doubtfire, Armageddon, and Indiana Jones.

  2. Fun topic and great list, Carole! (We passed a lot of miles yesterday, discussing it . . . so thanks for a fun diversion.) The Godfather. That’s a great can’t-look-away kind of movie.

  3. Bull Durham and Top Gun also hit this mark for me. I read an article about this a few years ago and there is a term for this but I’ve forgotten it. It should be fun reading everyone’s list.

  4. I’d have to include Moonstruck & anything by Alfred Hitchcock-North by Northwest, The Man Who Knew Too Much. It’s fun to read everyone’s list.

  5. Another great topic Carole! Since I still don’t have a blog (lol), here’s my list:
    Out of Africa
    Gone With the Wind
    Pretty Woman
    True Lies
    FX
    The Sound of Music
    The Music Man
    Dances with Wolves
    Arsenic and Old Lace
    A Room With a View

Will have fun looking at everyone’s lists.

  6. Sleepless in Seattle and You’ve Got Mail get me every time! Love the chemistry between Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks.

  7. Pretty Woman I totally forgot and could’ve added to my list…plus Runaway Bride, now that I think of it. This was a fun prompt and so full of good ideas. Thanks again for a different take on a “going to the movies.”
    Cheers~

  8. this is such a fun topic! I share your love of Pretty Woman and The Godfather. …and most of the others, but geez, we could only list TEN!

  9. I’m with you on the same choice of movies. Move over on the couch, Carol. We can watch together!

  10. All good ones! I’ve not seen #7. We got to see the Godfather on the big screen at a local theater that was going a retro movie night. So cool to see it that way.

  11. Shawshank Redemption is at the top of my list! I love old movies, and anything with Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn, Fred & Ginger, Myrna Loy… I haven’t had cable in a long time, though, so don’t have the “surf” that I used to, and it’s been a long time…
