Here's the email that went out this week: Hey Everyone! We're starting to feel like…
Think Write Thursday
The Think Write Thursday topic for this week is to write about 3 things you would do if YOU were the President of the United States.
Tomorrow is Inauguration Day and for the first time in many years I will not be watching. You probably already know this about me but in case you don’t, I will say that I’m a bit of a news and political junkie. So, Inauguration Day? Right up my alley. I love the pomp and circumstance, the music, the poetry, the speeches, the parade and all of the political pundits dissecting every detail of the event.
Or should I say loved. Because this year? Nope. We did, however, want to find a way to tie this event into our topic this week and that’s when Kat and I decided it would be awesome to think about what we would do if we were president. Here are my 3 top things.
- Implement Universal Health Care. I believe that health care is a right not a privilege. I further believe that no one should have to experience financial hardship, debt or bankruptcy because they got sick. I’m a fan of the single payer model for funding. And, while I think the transtion of this would be difficult for our country I still truly believe it’s the best thing that could happen in the end.
- Appoint a left leaning justice to the Supreme Court. I want someone who would uphold gay marriage and would not strive to overturn Roe v. Wade. I’m thinking Barack Obama might be an excellent choice.
- Create a system for publicly funded college education for all. Student debt is atrocious and out of control. Furthermore, I believe that we owe students whatever level of education it takes to earn a living wage and currently that is difficult on a high school education. In other words, if you need a college degree to support yourself then we should provide that level of education with public funds.
Now, don’t expect me to explain how I will pay for these ideas and plans. I mean, why should I be any different than most candidates running for office?

I’m with you Carole, all the way. Carole for president!
I love Barack for Supreme Court! This was a tough topic, but I appreciated the opportunity to really crystallize three things!
I can absolutely support your ideas. I’m willing to bet that if you were President, hard work and the resulting good things for ALL Americans would get done!
You have my vote.
Tomorrow is a sad day.
Love your last line, Carole 🙂 As far as being like other candidates goes, though, I hope you at least would keep your promises!
God bless the U.S. of A!
Barack Obama on the Supreme Court would be a dream come true! And, I would absolutely vote for you, I would campaign for you, and I would attend your inauguration!!
I’m like you – this will be the first time in my life I’m not paying attention to every little bit of things. It makes me sad.
I do agree with your political platform though, so let me know when you announce your candidacy! 🙂
I love Barack Obama for Supreme Court. I also fear a conservative court. Great stuff there Carole!
You all have really picked a big subject for your “Think Write” day! I can’t imagine what it would be like to be president.
It will be an odd day for politics tomorrow, needless to say.
I vote for YOU.
What a fantastic prompt. I’m going to use it with my high school history classes tomorrow while we work on inauguration activities.
I have a feeling your three priorities will be the priorities of most posters today. They would certainly be mine! Great topic, Carole! I also think every person should be automatically registered to vote the day they turn 18 and that voting would be an easy thing for every American to do!
I’m with you.
My head wants to explode–so many tings need to change. I would vote for Carole.
Oh, Carole, a politician after my own heart! I agree wholeheartedly with your platform. I think we could pay for universal healthcare by putting everyone on Medicare. We already have that infrastructure in place. Barack Obama for Supreme Court justice is genuis! I will so miss the gracious Obamas!
I will not be watching either. It makes me sad to not hold with inauguration tradition, but it would make me more sad to watch. Your three things have my vote!
I am so with you Carole especially with the universal health care. And Obama for the Supreme Court? Brilliant! Tomorrow will be a sad day for me and I will not watch
the inauguration for the first time in my life.
I woke this morning with a heavy heart. I am so ashamed of our country. I pray we survive this president, a thin-skinned lunatic with the nuclear bomb codes. Not my president.
However, your post was just what I needed to hear. I heartily agree with your three-pronged platform. President Obama as a Supreme Court Justice? Yes, please! What an intelligent, compassionate human being.
