Wednesday Knitting Things

Do you remember back in the early days of blogging, some 16+ years ago, when we used to send each other little gifts and packages in the mail? Sometimes it was an organized event where we would inquire about favorites and then get matched with someone. And sometimes it was just a surprise. It was fun! And we don’t do it anymore. I mean, I think we don’t do it anymore. Maybe all y’all are out there swapping gifts and not telling me.

In any case, I came home yesterday to a package from Vicki! It brought me right back to the blogging days of old. I had completely forgotten that I left the 30,000th comment on her blog a while back and she sent me a sweet little thank you prize.

In the box was a nice big mug, a leather measuring tape key ring, a lovely little box of chocolates, and a wonderful note. Truthfully, the note might have been my favorite part, reinforcing the idea that we need to write to each other and enforce that connection.

Thank you, Vicki for the goodies, for taking the time to send them to me, and for your steadfast and continual blogging. Your voice matters to our community and I’m so glad you’re here. You were a true role model to me back in those early days and I appreciate all you’ve done to connect this community.

In other news, I’m knitting socks. I can’t explain this, honestly, after confessing about the big old bag of socks I have to deal with but here I am anyway. They are pink, like Bonny’s current hitchhiker and Juliann’s current quilting. I’m declaring pink the color of 2021, despite what Pantone says.

Have a great Wednesday!

  1. I, too, discovered socks were fun to knit, but I just preferred wearing other socks (I probably shouldn’t say that as a knitter!!). I kept my 4 favorite pair and the others have been shipped off to a friend who will wear them.

  2. I’ve only been blogging for eight years and don’t think I was even reading blogs 16 years ago, but I’m pretty sure that if we were currently exchanging gifts, you would be one of the people organizing the swaps! That is a lovely gift package; I adore that mug and the key chain. I also love your socks. Pink is certainly helping me adjust to 2021!

  3. What a lovely surprise from Vicki! And I’m just chuckling over here about you knitting socks. (But I say . . . whatever gets us through these days is a good thing. So bring the socks! Bring the pink!) XO

  4. It seems to me that about 4 years ago, the knitting world was full of pink knitting!! I think this is an excellent tradition (and I like knitting socks!)

  5. I used to enjoy swaps, but I think too many people started complaining that they sent X such and such, and only got ___ in return, and they spent WAY more money, etc., etc. So I think they fell by the wayside because it turned into a hassle for the people running the swaps.

Those pink socks can only make you happy!

  6. What a thoughtful package! I’m sure it just made your day. As for the socks, the knitting heart wants what the knitting heart wants! No explanations necessary anytime as to what you are knitting, and certainly not in these times. I hope the pink socks soothe your soul.

  7. Ah, you’ve taken me back to the olden days of blogging and some of the fun we had then, but today we have the benefit of having been friends for a long time. Vicki is kind and generous and your package looks like great fun. The mug is perfect! I’m so glad pink is the color of the year because I just started a new pink shawl!!

  8. I was so busy (!!) yesterday that I didn’t get around to all my blogs. Whenever I think of swaps, I think of two favorite knitting projects made with yarn received in swaps that I would NEVER have bought myself. It helped me to broaden my horizons a little bit. 🙂 It is incredible that we’ve been blogging so regularly for so long… stunning, actually. But I am SO glad. I’ve made some of the best friends of my life through blogging.

    You are so welcome!
    xoxo

  9. I remember those days — do you remember Secret Pal? I did one swap called “Sockret Pal,” which was all about sock-related knitting. I’m still friends with a woman who I was matched up with.

I can totally get behind pink as the color for this year, too. Grellow was big in the knitting community years ago.
