Weekend Glimmers, December 1-3, 2023

Glimmers . . . moments that spark joy, contentment, and peace, making me feel that all is well and I am right where I belong . . .

My weekend started on Thursday night with the annual Lighting of the Common, an event that kicks off the Kiwanis festivity known as Christmas on the Common. I was in charge of the program this year and we had students from our middle school and high school chorus lead carol singing and we lit up the town’s new Christmas tree, planted in honor of our bicentennial year. It was a great turn out and so festive!

Our Bicentennial Committee ready to march in the Christmas parade. These folks worked so hard all year to bring us events every month to celebrate 200 years of our town and I’m so proud of all of them. Dale Co-Chaired this committee with one of my fellow Select Board members and they did an amazing job . . . and they are very happy that Saturday marked the end of a year of planning and presenting and organizing.

A selfie from the train at the beginning of the parade. We rode it for a bit and then got out and walked the rest of the way. There were huge crowds and it was a great day to be part of our town’s leadership team.

Jackie with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Let’s not talk about how big he is and how much he’s grown, okay? But if you want to go take a look at this photo (with the same Santa) from 6 years ago, I won’t mind.

A dinner party at our house Saturday night to gather with a few of our fellow Kiwanians to celebrate another successful Christmas on the Common. Everyone contributed and we had a delicious meal and a wonderful time of fellowship and connection. I truly believe something magical happens when you gather people together and sit down at a table and share a meal.

It was a very Christmas-y weekend.

  1. I love your town’s celebrations, Carole! (And that you and Dale are so instrumental in making them happen.) We have a similar lighting ceremony here — but I haven’t gone since Erin participated as one of the choir-kids. It’s a lovely tradition — and such a great bit of glimmer for the holiday season. Okay. So I won’t mention anything about Jackie . . . but I will say this: Your Santa hat is PERFECTION! XO

  2. Jeesh! How did Jackie get so big? So fast?!! Love your glasses and the entire weekend just sounds like so much fun and festivity!

  3. It looks like a wonderful weekend with fun and good company! I think there must be something in the water where you live because I’m not sure how else to explain how Jackie is so big!

  4. Truly, magic happens when we gather around a table to share a meal, doesn’t it?! and Jackie!!!! (loved the look back to six years ago – wow, time flies! …as we both well know). December Glimmers are the best!
