Easter Celebration

Yesterday was Easter and the weather was glorious – warm and sunny and not at all like Easter in New England. For the first time in my life I served a sit down dinner for 12 outside. We set up tables and chairs in the driveway (the ground is pretty soft right now) and with some extra touches (like rugs from our Civil War trailer) I made it look very special.

Most of the family and some of our friends were able to join us for ham, turkey, parmesan mashed potatoes, asparagus, mashed carrots and turnip, and corn muffins. Everything was delicious and the company was great. We sat and talked and laughed and ate for most of the afternoon.

Our dessert included coconut cake and iced sugar cookies and lemon squares.

All very spring-like on a lovely summery afternoon.

  1. Wasn’t the weather just the best? My nephew spent all afternoon with his adult “puppets” in the backyard, playing with the bubble machine…

Lovely afternoon and great night, watching baseball, knitting and just being.

  2. Looks like you had a great deal of fun! Your cookies look (read in Billy Crystal’s Fernando Lamas voice) Marvelous!

  3. How very COOL — and yet, WARM. 😉

So great to be able to have dinner outside. (Though my husband would not agree. He hates dining outside. Can’t STAND it. “OMG, an INSECT might come!!!!!!!!!!!!” Good LORD. It is a huge bone of contention around here, since I LOVE it.)

  4. So glad you had a nice day for dining outside! It’s been a few years since I’ve had a big dinner in the yard…now I’m feeling inspired!!!

  5. It was truly a glorious non-New-England-Easter day! We ate outside as well 🙂 It was wonderful … ’til those darn little bugs came out, LOL! So glad you had a good day with family and friends 🙂 Oh, and the parmesan mashed potatoes? A *HUGE* hit with my family!!!

  6. It was a bit too cool in Los Angeles to eat outdoors but we did get to experience the effects from a 7.2 earthquake in Mexico while we were eating! Everyone just looked at each other and wondered if we should move outside – we didn’t and finished our delicious meal.

  7. That all looks lovely! How nice to have the rugs outside to lend that air of elegance to your festive table. Our weather was glorious too. What a treat for the holiday.

  8. Tres cool! Rockport was a bit too misty and chilly for a fete such as yours – those ocean breezes, you know. Soon, though.

  9. Norma’s husband and my daughter need to have dinner together inside, far away from the flies, while we all eat outside 🙂
We made blueberry pie…the lattices were wonky but man, it tasted good! Your dinner sounds awesome.
