Ten On Tuesday

Orange Ruffles resized for blog

I owe this week’s Ten on Tuesday topic to Beth. She suggested 10 Favorite Magazines and I think it’s a great topic.  I have to admit that I look at a lot of magazines since I catalog them for the library. That means every magazine we subscribe to lands on my desk first –  lucky me!

  1. People. It’s barely a step above the Enquirer but I read it cover to cover every week.
  2. Good Housekeeping. They still have the best recipes and there’s nothing like the Good Housekeeping seal of approval.
  3. Interweave Knits. I honestly don’t love this as much as I used to but it’s still a good knitting magazine.
  4. Spin Off. I love when my issue arrives and wish it came every month instead of every other.
  5. Twist Collective. Granted, an online magazine isn’t the same as one you can curl up with but it’s got awesome patterns and that’s good enough for me.
  6. Popular Photography. Sometimes I just skim it but I always look through it.
  7. Bon Appetit. Food porn, my friends.
  8. Cape Cod Life and Boston. I put these together because they are regional. I enjoy reading them for the local flavor.
  9. Cooking Light. The recipe remake section is always good.
  10. Family Circle and Woman’s day. These two are kind of interchangeable, too, but the recipes are usually pretty good.

Those are my weekly and monthly reads. A good combination of crafting, cooking and general information, I think.

  1. Is it only Tuesday!? I’m so ready for a weekend. I’ll make my list here. The New Yorker, Twist Collective, Spin Off, and Cook’s (Smith reads Cooks and he sometimes cooks).

  2. Ooooh, some good magazines in there! I realize I’m sorely lacking in my reading of knitting … hmmmmm, might have to do something about that!!

  3. Sounds good to me! I don’t read a lot of magazines, but I do have a couple of favorites that aren’t on your list — and vice versa. Vive la différence!

  4. So, what’s up with Cooking Light’s new format. Really miss the old version of the magazine! I love to browse through Coastal Living to see how the other half lives.

  5. I like Cooking Light, too. Most of my favorite go-to recipes are from Cooking Light. I also love Yoga Journal, Fiddler, Old-Time Herald, Real Simple, Country Living, and Allure (my guilty pleasure – makeup porn). Oh, and Consumer Reports has a magazine called Shop Smart that I really like.

  6. Good list. I like to think that People is quite a few steps above the Enquirer but you’re probably right. I still love it. Cooking Light made my list too. I love how they lighten things up.

  7. My favorite food magazine is Saveur – not so much for the recipes (though they are authentic) but for the wonderful portraits of other cultures.

  8. I would add Sunset and Ode.
Ode is my current favorite magazine – its one about sustainability, life, and all sorts of interesting things from around the world.
