Three On Thursday

As so many people have been pointing out lately, the days of summer are waning. Now, on the one hand I find it really annoying that this keeps coming up because there are still 37 days until September 22nd. But! On the other hand I’m sort of glad it has come up because it has made me think about what things I want to accomplish before summer is over. I’m sure you won’t be surprised to know that I’ve thought of three.

  1. Go on vacation to Cape Cod. This will be happening come Saturday and I’m really looking forward to a week away with the kids. Not all the kids will be with us all of the week and some not at all but most of the week will include most of them and this year we have the added fun of Jackie! Cross your fingers for good weather for us, won’t you? I’m hoping for plenty of beach time along with bike riding and swimming, hanging out and reading, eating lobster and drinking rosé!
  2. Have ice cream from Polar Cave. I only get to this ice cream parlor when we’re on vacation and I look forward to it all year. Those fresh made (warm!!) waffle cones are such a treat and the ice cream flavors are truly fabulous. It’s a treat and a half every time we go.
  3. Finish the pergola and have a dinner party to celebrate. Really, we’re about done except for getting the curtains up and Dale was working on that yesterday so perhaps by the time you’re reading this he’s done. Once it’s all finished I want to have a few friends over to light the candles and eat delicious food and enjoy an evening under this summer’s big project.

What do you want to do before summer is over?

Don’t forget to add your link if you wrote a post for today!

  1. That’s a great list, Carole! and perfect timing to get the pergola finished. I envision a few early fall dinners there as well 🙂

  2. Well, now I want to eat an old fashioned ice cream cone. We eat ice cream regularly at home in the summer. But I might need to go out soon. What’s your favorite flavor there?

I also want to spend an entire day reading a good book. That was a regular event as a kid, but now more limited to a long weekend. Ideally, there would be a hammock involved and lemonade, on a warm but not too hot day.

  3. Great list, Carole! And I’m with you . . . there’s plenty of summer left! Lots of time to enjoy the treats of the season. Your pergola is fabulous!!!! What a perfect, perfect addition to your home. XOXO

  4. This is a great list and I am here to tell you that Pergola??? It is most awesome in the fall as well… in fact maybe even nicer!

  5. What a great post! I’m sending good vacation weather juju… man, that sounds like a great week (ice cream!). Your pergola is lovely and dinner party really sounds like fun.

  6. Finish unpacking, buy a grill, and begin using our outdoor space! Look forward to hearing all about your vacation at the Cape.

  7. I hope that list comes true. I have never had a warm waffle cone but now am going to keep a look out for such a treat. Enjoy.

  8. Great list, Carole. Before the summer is over, I would like to get my summer to-do list done, but I never seem to quite make it. Oh well. Your pergola is wonderful. I predict, as everyone else above, that you will use it after summer is over. I think you could pick out one of your favorite shawls and sit there while enjoying the smells of autumn, a drink of some sort, a book, knitting, the possibilities are endless! Have a great party to christen it!

  9. Your pergola looks so romantic and elegant! (I’ve seen it with curtains in your post on Friday on Instagram, was it?) Have a wonderful vacation! You have an enviable life, dear Carole.
