A Story About Wednesday

I went to a new eye doctor yesterday. You may recall that I got progressive lenses around this time last year. And, while I’ve gotten used to them, I’ve never felt the prescription was exactly right. AND, they were useless for seeing my monitors at work. So, a few months ago I reached out to the eye services that are located in the same building as my doctor and got an appointment, although in a different location.

Anyway.

The doctor was great. She was young and very friendly and we chatted about libraries and I have every confidence that she gave me a good and thorough exam. My prescription is somewhat different than what I got last year and my right eye does indeed have 20/20 vision now without glasses. Turns out, that’s because I have (in the doctor’s words) “baby cataracts” in that eye and at this point they are helping my vision so we “aren’t concerned.”

I left with my new prescription for progressives, a prescription for computer glasses, the knowledge that my eyes are healthy, and an appointment for next year. I also left with dilated eyes which made the ride home . . . and the plant shopping I may or may not have done . . . interesting.

I’ll be going shopping for new glasses very soon, stay tuned for that!

  1. I need to make an eye appointment… so I hear you on this loud and clear. Being able to clearly see … well the struggle is real. I can’t wait to see what new glasses you pick!

  2. It’s a day for celebrating when you find a doctor that will listen and offer helpful information and advice, and it sounds like you’ve found one! Congratulations and have fun glasses shopping.

  3. Nothing more frustrating than having things not quite in focus. I now especially intrigued by the plant report.

  4. Cute picture of you! Yay for getting the right prescription. I think I need a new one. Fletch and I have both had cataract surgery and got new glasses after that. My eyes have slowly adjusted and, I think, changed. Fletch needed new glasses a couple of months ago. I have an appointment in a couple of weeks. It is for a pressure check only, but I’ll chat with my doctor and find out when my next vision check is.

  5. Your glasses look great! I had an unplanned eye dr appointment last week because I … broke my glasses (ugh, first time in nearly 50 years of wearing glasses). Sara encouraged me to try Warby Parker and I did. and was really pleased. Loved the optometrist (also a young woman, very personable) and the techs who did the glasses were great. My new glasses arrived yesterday (I ordered them last Tuesday, so just a smidge over a week) and I think the prescription is spot on. I do need to get the frames tweaked but it doesn’t feel urgent. I didn’t realize how much I’d come to rely on and love my progressive everyday glasses (I only got them summer 2021) and wow, I’m glad to have them again!

  6. I’m so glad you went back and had another eye doctor take a look at your eyes! I’m hoping your new Rx will help you see better. XO (I don’t know anyone around our age who doesn’t have “baby cataracts” . . . at the very least.) Can’t wait to see your new frames!

  7. Yay!! I don’t know what I’d do without my computer glasses. I have a pair at home, a pair at work, and another pair that’s for near-to-across-the-room (I mostly use those for more comfortable long-term reading — the Sunday morning paper, for instance).
