About That Camping Trip

One week ago today was my birthday and I spent the day on my own at the campground. We had set up the camper the night before and left it at the campground so it was all ready for me to just relax and hang out once I got there. Dale came after work and we had the evening together and then he got up early Friday morning and went to work for the day. Once he got back on Frday after work he was there for the weekend.

In other words, I had all day Thursday and all day Friday to do as I pleased at the camper.

It was wonderful.

I love time to myself during the day. In the evening, for reasons I can’t explain, I tend to get lonely but during the day I’m all about alone time. I spent both days reading and relaxing, watching some TV, knitting, and journaling and thinking. I had pre-planned my meals so that I could cook for myself and not have to think about going out at all.

On Friday I started the campfire mid-afternoon and read by the fire. It was just chilly enough for it to feel great and I was pretty proud of my accomplishment . . . made easier because Dale had left a good supply of kindling and paper, of course. I didn’t see any other people during the day as our site was pretty secluded and I truly loved it.

Here’s to knowing ourselves and embracing the ways we recharge!

  1. What a wonderful way to usher in your birthday, Carole! That fire looks so inviting… the perfect place to hang out for an afternoon! I am sorry Dale had to work, but I love that you had time to yourself! XO

  2. Oh, Carole. What an ideal way to plan for and spend your birthday!!! (Heck. What an ideal way to plan for and spend ANY day we choose . . . ) I’m so glad you were able to spend that time just recharging and enjoying yourSELF. XO

  3. It sounds like you planned and had a perfect birthday! I used to treasure my alone time during the day when John was working, but alone time is much more difficult to come by now that he’s retired. (Maybe I need to get myself a camper?!)

  4. Perfection!!! I love and cherish my alone time too. Reading by a campfire just sounds wonderful. Glad you had such a nice time.

  5. It sounds like a wonderful and peaceful way to spend your birthday! I also had a birthday last week, but my week turned out to be hectic in lots of unexpected ways, but I got through it and I’m going to take a hint from you and set aside a couple of “me ” days next week! I hope your birthday was wonderful and wish you the best for the coming year!

  6. This sounds like an amazing way to spend your birthday! I know exactly what you mean about enjoying alone time during the day but feeling lonely at night (maybe because, working from home, I’m used to being alone during the day but look forward to having my family around in the evening).

  7. Oh, how fun, Carole!! Since camping for the biking weekend in Door County, I’ve been thinking about taking Ducky out for a couple of days by myself, too. When we were still working on it, I remember thinking how fun it would be to do that. It’s still tough to find a spot, but maybe I’ll have another look.

  8. Wow, that sounds like the best kind of camping … and what a lovely way to spend your birthday and welcome in another year!
