It was a relaxing and mostly at-home weekend once again, as is my preference this…
Glimmers, December 13th-15th, 2024
Hello and Happy Monday! That weekend zoomed by. Then again, don’t they all? Here are some highlights:
Fred & George had their annual check up. Our veterinarian is wonderful and comes to the house, which is so less stressful for all of us. Fred weighs just under 8lbs and George weighs just over 15lbs – a significant different in size but not unusual, I’m told. They are both doing well.
Friday was the 5th anniversary of my brother-in-law Randy’s death and it happened to fall on Friday the 13th again for the first time. Dale and I honored the anniversary by doing a Luminaria Walk at a local nature education center. Randy had a strong connection to their program, volunteering and presenting programs for kids on Native Americans in our area so it felt like a good thing to be in a place that meant a lot to him.
On Saturday I volunteered at our Kiwanis Christmas Tree Sales stand. Dale had a Santa gig at a local historical museum and he stopped by afterwards to drum up some sales. I don’t know if it helped to sell any trees but he got a lot of honks from cars driving by! And on Sunday we sold out of trees for the year which is a great thing as this is the biggest fund raiser we hold.
On Sunday I was at home doing Sunday things. Making soup (chicken noodle this week at Dale’s request), making 2 batches of Kym’s Bourbon Maple Candied Pecans, and making lists of cookies and supplies because tomorrow is my annual Cookie Baking Day with Doreen. (That also means posting may or may not happen for the next couple of days.)
I hope your weekend was full of all the weekend things you love.

Sounds like a great holiday weekend. I’m holding out for baking day photos!
I bet you and Doreen are having a great time, cookie-baking your little hearts out! Enjoy! I thought about you and Dale on Friday, Carole. It sounds like you found the ideal way to honor Randy’s memory, and I hope it brought you both some peace and comfort. XO
(And how did George get to be nearly TWICE the size of Fred????)
I also thought about you and Dale on Friday. I am so glad that you found such a beautiful way to honor him.
Also, thanks for that pecan recipe! I was going to go back and look for that this week!
And I am echoing Kym… how is George so much bigger than Fred!!
Your weekend sounds perfect to me, Carole. Nature and reflection on a much loved person, some social time with the Kiwanis, soup, and planning for baking with Doreen. I hope your Monday is as much fun as I expect it to be.
A vet who does house calls? That’s almost unheard of! I hope Fred and George know how special they are!
I hope the walk in remembrance of your brother-in-law brought some comfort to you both.
Happy baking!
George is large and in charge! I think that is a lovely way to honor Randy and all the good memories you hold dear. I do hope you and Doreen are having fun and making good things!
Have a fun baking day!! I miss doing that.
I’m glad y’all were able to honor that 5-year anniversary in such a meaningful way … and then baking! Know you and Doreen had a ball – and baked! looking forward to an Eye Candy Friday that might really be sweet!
