Weekend Glimmers, March 21st-23rd, 2025

There were plenty of glimmers this weekend and even a couple of photos.

A day at home on Friday with only a quick trip out to get my nails done was a treat. I read and journaled and puttered around the house. Dale and I had our usual end of the week ritual of a cocktail and some snacks for dinner. And we started watching the show The Pitt. It’s quite good and we are now 4 episodes in and thoroughly enjoying it.

Saturday was another day at home. I had fed my sourdough started on Friday night so it was ready to go in the morning and I mixed up a batch of dough. My started, Mama Cass, has been going strong for over 5 years now (ironically, I started baking sourdough bread in February of 2020, just before the pandemic sourdough craze hit) and I’ve adapted a method and timing that works well for me, fussing over it way less than I did in those early days of learning to do this.

Our new dining room table is being delivered this week so we took our current one and dragged it out to the front lawn for someone to take. None of our kids wanted it and it wasn’t worth selling but it’s still in decent enough shape so we figured it was worth a shot. Our neighbor saw us getting it out the back door and stopped to lend us a hand. Before Dale could even make a sign that said “free” a young couple in a pick up truck with 2 kids in the back pulled over to look at it. They were so excited to take it home and I’m really glad for them. It served us well and I have many memories of holiday dinners and game nights and friends gathered around that table, I hope they create those same experiences.

Dale had a job with the band on Saturday night and I spent the evening catching up on television and hanging out with Fred and George. It was peaceful and maybe a tiny bit lonely without Dale around but that’s a good reminder that I appreciate his company.

On Sunday morning I baked my sourdough bread and we each had a slice for lunch before going out for an old fashioned Sunday drive. We meandered around through some back roads in Buzzard’s Bay and along the canal, stopped at the grocery store on the way home for some weekly provisions, and that was about it.

I hope you had a weekend that you enjoyed, too.

  1. What a fantastic weekend, Carole! I am glad your dining room table found a new home! Nice way to pay it forward! My sourdough starter is not that old, but I agree with the baker gaining comfort with the process making loaves some of my favorite tasks. I hope your weekend glimmers carry you through this week! XO

  2. Sounds like a weekend balanced between relaxation and domestic chores. How nice to know your dining table has gone on to its next life.

  3. I like the idea of your old dining room table going to another family for them to create memories around. Finding takers before Dale had even made a sign must be some kind of record! Your bread looks delicious and I’d love some with butter this morning!

  4. Boy, do I ever love your sharings! I’m new here and very happy to be joining in. Thank you for making this crazy world better. I love our libraries and adore librarians! ?

  5. Sounds like the perfect weekend, Carole. It is the kind of weekend that I used to have with my late husband. It’s particularly nice that you appreciate things before they are gone. I have been offloading furniture since my husband died, and it always makes me feel good to imagine someone else finding what they consider useful objects. Your sourdough looks fabulous. I need to get back in the habit of baking soon.

  6. I love that someone took that table off your hands so quickly! I’m always happy when I no longer have use for something but someone else is excited to have it. Your snacks and your sourdough (and that cocktail) look delicious! Hope you’re having a smooth start to your week.
