We had a great long weekend here with (mostly) good weather, some fun, some family…
Weekend Glimmers, April 4th-6th, 2025
It wasn’t a particularly exciting or special weekend around here. We ran errands. I planned meals and ordered groceries and Dale picked them up. Dale filled the bird feeders. I puttered around the house and spent time in my studio. You know, just the stuff of everyday life.
And yet, at one point when we were driving along together, I thought about how 28 years ago I longed for days like this. We weren’t married yet and time together during the day was a rarity. We lived in separate houses, we had chores and responsibilities and children to care for, Dale often worked with the band and our weekends didn’t stretch out before us with the luxuriousness of unplanned time.
It’s so easy to take daily life for granted, isn’t it?
Yesterday we got the news that a young man from our town died from injuries he sustained in an automobile accident early Sunday morning. He has ridden on Dale’s school bus for years, going to and from school with Dale every day, including last Friday. Dale looked at me with tears in his eyes and said, “the last thing I told him was to have a good weekend . . . and he said, you too, Dale.”
It’s a sharp and painful reminder that the weekends we cherish are never guaranteed. Treasure every moment, my friends.

Amen, Carole. I am so sorry for the family that now has an empty space at their table.
Life is brief and precious. How easily we forget. What a luxury tobe able to do so. My thoughts go out to that hurting family, and all the people like Dale he touched.
Amen. Life turns on a dime, so we need to be mindful of all our blessings every day.
I’m so sorry for the young man’s family and thank you for the timely reminder. There are no guarantees.
Oh my! My heart goes out to that boy’s family and all the people (Dale included) he touched. How tragic. One thing that retirement has taught me is how much I love ordinary days. Nothing special…just puttering around and doing things.
Please give Dale a hug from me.
Oh, Carole. That’s such a poignant reminder of the fragility of our days. Sending love your way. XO
That is very sad. A reminder to appreciate every day, especially the boring ones. Hug your loved ones right now!
I am so sorry for that family’s loss — how awful. It’s a good reminder that life is precious and it doesn’t have to be exciting to be treasured.
Oh, that’s so sad.
xoxo
