Unraveled: A New Project AND 2 New Books
Today, in a totally unprecedented move, I have all new things to share with you.
This is the new project I am working on:

It’s the Saddle Shoulder Men’s Pullover which you may recognize this pattern because Kym is knitting this same sweater for Tom. The pattern comes from Churchmouse Yarns and I’m using Jamieson’s Shetland Heather in the color Highland Mist. When I tell you that this color is an exact match for Dale’s eyes I am not exaggerating at all, it’s perfection. I did a gauge swatch over the weekend and I’m off by one half of a stitch but I prefer the hand of the fabric with the size 7 needle despite that so I’m adjusting accordingly. What that really means it that I did a little math and I’m going with a smaller size and hoping it all works out.
As for reading, I started 2 new books yesterday:
Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid. This is an ARC from NetGalley and I just got it this week. The book is set to be published next Tuesday so I moved it right up to the top of my queue.
The Let Them Theory by Mel Robbins. I’m listening to this one. I’m not big on self help books but this came highly recommended by someone I trust and given some complicated family stuff happening right now (Dale and I are fine, it’s crap related to settling his father’s estate) I think it’s going to be really helpful.
I hope you are also knitting something you enjoy and reading something that hits the mark.

I have to assume it is no hardship looking at knitting that reminds you of Dale. Meanwhile, sending good thoughts for the dynamics surrounding Jack’s estate. Fingers crossed people remember the person more than the estate and can refocus with that in mind. Grief makes it hard to be our best selves sometimes.
I love that yarn. I have been looking at my closet and thinking that I need to branch out more from gray garments – LOL. I have a LOT of gray garments, and I have a bit of gray yarn in my stash. You have all my sympathy about attempting to settle estates! My husband and I had everything in order, but the powers that be have still made settling his estate a heartbreaking burden of paper and time. I decided to surrender early on in the process in order to avoid rage. I hope you find some help in this book, and I hope you will review it.
What gorgeous yarn! I love that color. The two books sound good Carole – I’ll look forward to your reviews (I’m not a huge fan either of self help books, but this one does sound ok to me).
Half a stitch? If it were me, I wouldn’t sweat half a stitch. ;-P Anyway. Dale’s sweater looks GREAT, Carole! It’s so nice to be knitting the same project at the same time . . . and it’ll be doubly nice to know that Tom and Dale will have the same (lovingly knit) sweaters in their closets!) XO
I’m not letting John read you blog in case he gets the idea that I should knit him a sweater! Dale’s sweater is looking good and you’ve read two good books – that’s a pretty good week!
P.S. My father’s estate was just settled last month and he died in 2018. It wasn’t all crap in between, just nagging people to do what he had specified in the will so I could finally write the checks to them. I’ll be interested in what you think of “Let Them”.
That is a fantastic start on a sweater for Dale! I agree, that color is just lovely! I wish you luck with the estate things… I don’t envy you that process!
I think you and Kym might be starting a trend — who knows how many of us might be knitting this sweater before too long! I hope your plan works out (with a guy sweater and half a stitch, I’m sure it’ll be fine). I just heard some buzz about the new TJR book, so I’ll be looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
Nice work on the sweater! Your book choices sound interesting also. Our book club just discussed A Wild and Heavenly Place and The Last Green Valley. Have you read the follow up to My Name is Mary Sutter? It’s called Winter Sisters and very interesting. All three of these are very thought provoking.
