Three Things On Thursday

Pinecones and Holly blog size

This coming weekend is the big Kiwanis event of the year in my town, Christmas on the Common, and that means a lot of the things on my mind are related to that. There’s the tree lighting tonight and the parade and tree decorating contest on Saturday. But there are other things going on, too, and well, I guess I should just let these lists speak for themselves . .  .

Three things I have to do:

  1. Make apple crisp for the Christmas tree lighting tonight. Better get on this one, quick!
  2. Organize the forms for the judges of the tree decorating contest. I’m in charge of this for the 2nd year in a row and I don’t want to get too lackadaisical about it so I need to stay on top of it and get things ready.
  3. Finish the Through the Woods hood for Hannah. I’m pretty sure she will want to wear it to Christmas on the Common on Saturday.

Three things I’m looking forward to:

  1. The Christmas tree lighting tonight. There will be hot chocolate and caroling and pretty lights and it’s a great way to start the Christmas season.
  2. Hannah coming home this weekend. I was surprised when she said she wanted to come home again right after Thanksgiving but I also recognize that the appeal is attending Christmas on the Common and has nothing to do with me.
  3. Riding in the Christmas on the Common parade on Saturday. My father-in-law is Grand Marshal and my sisters-in-law and I are riding with him in the limousine. How cool is that?

Three things I’m thinking about:

  1. Pinterest. Have you seen this? It’s surely another internet time suck but it’s cool and it’s fun and a great place to keep track of the things you find online that you want to share with others.
  2. Polio. I just got to the part in the FDR book where he contracted the disease and then I went to a Rotary event the other night and they talked about how hard they are working to eradicate polio through their vaccination program. It’s a horrible and insidious disease and it needs to be stopped.
  3. Project 365 for 2011. Do I want to do this again or not? I’m leaning towards doing it because it’s a good way to make myself use my camera every day and it also helps with blog stuff when I don’t have something to blog about. On the other hand, it’s a big commitment and I don’t take this sort of thing lightly.

What 3 things are you thinking about today?

This Post Has 20 Comments

  1. I signed up for Pinterest yesterday! my daughter invited me. time suck for sure, but I think it will be great when I have a few spare minutes. Sounds like you have a busy and fun-filled few days coming up – ENJOY!

  2. Uhoh…Pinterest looks like so much fun!

I’m thinking about time with friends, making rosemary shortbread cookies and mapping out all of December so I don’t miss any commitments.

  3. Hmm only three? Festival of Trees at the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford, ct. This actually counts as two. One, my knitting group submitted a tree of hand knit teddy bears, with felted ball garland and felted tree skirt. It’s at the museum ready to go. Preview dinner at the museum. As a member of the women’s group I’ll be one of the firs to see all the trees on display tonight. Third, sadly, the loss of my husband’s uncle today. We knew it was coming, but still very sad.

  4. Lets see… three things I’m thinking about?
    1) The Christmas crafts that I need to get done… fabric-covered styrofoam ball ornaments, felted soaps and “terrible shedding sweater” I’m finishing for myself (why do I keep working on this???)
    2) All of the shopping I need to get done…I keep going to the mall and leave “empty-handed”. Can’t come up with ideas for some people.
    3) The expensive sewing machine that I keep trying to talk myself out of buying!! Its SOOO NICE!!!!

  5. My 3 things … 1) I’m a little sad that I’m missing Christmas on the Common this year, it is an awesome way to reconnect to lots of people in town … 2) I have a lot of things to do in the next 48 hours … 3) in 48 hours, I’ll be in the air on my way to DISNEY!!

  6. Three things:

    1. WB’s neuro appointment this morning.
    2. Christmas lists and the shopping related thereto.
    3. Finishing my NaKniSweMo sweater (yes, missed the deadline).

  7. Three things :
    1. I must write a check to the piano teacher.
    2. Can’t forget to bring the students’ notebooks back to school (again).
    3. Prayers, crossed fingers, good vibes as Halle is driving in some serious snow for the first time today.

  8. I joined pinterest a bit ago. It does look cool, but I couldn’t get their application to ‘pin’ things to work so I said enough. Between Ravelry, Tatespotting, and Serious Eats I have plenty of time wasters. Pretty soon I won’t have time to knit!

  9. Hi Carole – you’ve got a fun weekend ahead! Three things:
    1. Only 7 days until Dan returns!
    2. What bag to carry and clothes to wear on NYC bus trip Saturday.
    3. What to serve guests for dinner on Sunday – maybe your chicken dish?

  10. Your little town would be the perfect place to start the Holiday Season properly. What joy and fun the whole town will share. I just joined PinInterest. As near as I can tell it creates desire! I see so many things I want, but I’m going to try and make it fit my lifestyle changes.

  11. I created a Pinterest board to save all of the fun, inspiring, and relevant things and ideas for my daughter’s wedding — so easy to share with her!

My grandmother has a section in the memoir she wrote for us about polio — it wasn’t often talked about — the family in quarantine, hours on the road between Madison, where my uncle was hospitalized, and Minneapolis, where my aunt was; everyone survived, but not without paying an incredible price. Heroic. Adding to the insidiousness is Post-Polio Syndrome.

  12. Wanted to follow up – I do think pinterest is a very cool site, just not the site for me. I agree with Margene that it creates desire – which is the opposite of what I am trying to do right now. I think it would be incredible for gathering ideas and inspirations but it doesn’t necessarily provoke a desire to do (in me), but more of to a desire to have.

  13. Totally off topic here but did you see that your yarn picture was chosen as the best picture on Digital Photography School’s website! I knew I recognized the winning picture from somewhere. Yay Carole!!!

  14. Well, NOW I’m thinking of project 365. DARN!

That would be quite a challenge, but maybe I need to give it a try in 2011. Do you have a link to the blog for it?

  15. Pinterest sounds cool but I don’t know if I can handle another time-suck. Your weekend ahead sounds like it’ll be wonderful. Mine is pretty full too – including 2 Hanukkah parties. If I can fit in a little knitting between all the party stuff and remember to mail the last few gifts out then I’ll be really happy.

  16. Three things: Hmmmm.

    1. Advil. I did a double workout last night (I just joined the gym last week, so I’m not one of those “fit” people). It hurt to pet the cats this morning.

    2. Next week is finals week for our students. Panic ensues.

    3. I’m looking forward to going to the library and my LYS tonight. I have books to return, books to check out and I’m going to allow myself to buy yarn to make new hats for both my Mom and Dad. They really need new hats and I don’t have appropriate yarn for either. Since I’ve been on a “no yarn” spending freeze, I’m really looking forward to the bending of the rules. ‘Cause, it is for my PARENTS! Hee Hee

  17. Hmmm.. three things…
    1. I am thinking about my oldest moving back home from Michigan at Christmas. Which leads to the list of things that have to be done to make room for him and his stuff, and oh yeah, his 75 pound black lab, in a really small three bedroom rowhouse.
    2. I am thinking about how to help a Boy Scout troop from NC who wants to come to Baltimore over Martin Luther King weekend and stay at our church (the one that our troop is at) but the church campus is “closed” after the service on Sunday because it would be nice for the maintenance person who lives in a house on the premises to actually get a day off once or twice a year. We are trying to get creative on how to make this work.
    3. I am thinking about how there are more things to do on my to-do list than there are days in December, between work and home, and how to try to alleviate the stress that that, as well as some business changes, and therefore finances are creating in my life. For me stress settles in my sleep habits and my shoulder and neck, so right now I am a very tired pretzel. A massage might help, but that is not in the budget these days, especially with the holiday coming, so I will have to get creative with that as well.
Actually, it seems that I am thinking about whining ; )

  18. My three things:

    1) Keep taking my medicine so this cold goes away.
    2) Unpack some more
    3) Remember to take the Toys for Tots gift to the Senior Congress tomorrow.

  19. My three things…(a bit late)
    1) a bridal expo tomorrow with Ashley, Stacey and Miles’s girlfriend,Jenny
    2) really wanting to have fun with Holiday decorations this year
    3) the HUGE mound of Opulence I needto start dyeing on Monday

    Pinterest…..scarey time suck!
